Is masochism, particularly mine, an illusion?
Do I merely fool myself and others into thinking that I enjoy pain as it's an inevitability?
If we're going to be hurt as obviously as we are to pay taxes and die then we may as well adapt to it in order to survive and thrive.

Could this all be a means of evolution, claiming to enjoy pain as we'll have to tolerate it anyway? One would suppose that we may as well make it pleasant.
Do I take delight in drawing blood and cultivating burn blisters or do I only think I enjoy it as it distracts from the emotional calamity at hand?
