Chapter XIV - Desolate

PHIL: (sniffles) "So, you're going to jump then?"

DAN: "Probably."

PHIL: "You're a selfish jerk."

DAN: (laughs, sarcastic) "Woah, Phil, calm down."

PHIL: "How are you joking at a time like this?"

DAN: "Phil, stop getting so torn up over it. I don't belong in this world."

PHIL: "Yes, you do! You belong here with your grandma and Ethan and all your friends. You're gonna leave everything because you're not satisfied right now?"

DAN: "Yes."

PHIL: "Fine. Go ahead."

DAN: (finally turns around to watch phil quizzically) "What?"

PHIL: (sniffles, takes a deep breath) "But let me go first."

DAN: "What?"

PHIL: (puts his leg over the edge, about to get onto the wall) "I'm jumping first."

DAN: (shouting) "Phil, are you crazy?" (shoves phil's leg off the wall so that he is away from the edge, stumbles, quickly catches his balance) "You're a fucking idiot! What the fuck was that?"

PHIL: "Why do you care?"

DAN: "Because you can't kill yourself just because I am!"

PHIL: "And why not?"

DAN: "Because you have your whole life ahead of you. And you're happy. And you're going to find someone to love with all your heart. And you're going to have children and you're going to love them. And you're so good, Phil. Why would you even consider jumping off?"

PHIL: "Can you even hear yourself? The same goes for you!"

DAN: "I'm not good like you are."

PHIL: (roughly wipes his tears with his jumper) "Yes, you are. And it frustrates me so much that you don't see it because to me, it's clear as day."

DAN: "I'm not."

PHIL: "I'll help you see it. You just need to come down."

DAN: "You don't get it, Phil. Even if I am good, no one's going to love me because I don't deserve it."

PHIL: (can't contain his anger, sobbing and shouting) "Are you fucking blind? I'm so in love with you, Dan, and it's tearing me apart."

DAN: (shocked, repeating) "You're in love with me?"

PHIL: "I'm so in love with you! I can't stop thinking about you; your smile, your laugh, your eyes. And I think about how lucky I am to have even met you. How others won't have this chance and how sorry I feel for them. Because you're the best thing that's ever happened to me. These last few weeks with you, I've felt like I'm on a rollercoaster that only goes up." (wipes his face again) "And if you jump right now, that roller coaster is going to come crashing down." (sniffles, lets out a few more tears) "I'll follow you."

DAN: "You can't say that."

PHIL: "If you don't belong in this world, then neither do I."

DAN: "Phil, stop."

PHIL: "I want to be wherever you are."

DAN: "Why?"

PHIL: "Because I'm hooked. I've had the tiniest taste of the drug and now I can't go back."

DAN: "That's ridiculous."

PHIL: "I don't care."

DAN: "I don't know. I don't know what to do."

PHIL: "I'll help you. We'll figure it out." (reaches his hand out once more) "Just please. Please come down."

DAN: "You're in love with me?"

PHIL: "Completely and unconditionally."

DAN: "And you're not lying or joking?"

PHIL: "Come down and I'll prove it."

DAN: (clutches phil's hand) "Okay."

PHIL: (can't believe dan's agreed, pulls dan's hand, dan falls on top of him, they end up in a heap) "Oops, are you okay?"

DAN: (rests his head on phil's chest as he laughs) "I'm fine." (more laughing) "You?"

PHIL: "I'm good. Great, actually."

DAN: (smirks) "So, what did you want to show me?"

PHIL: (slams their lips together, runs his hand along the back of dan's neck and into his hair, pulls away) "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to do that."

DAN: (hands still on phil's chest, whispers in his ear) "I can take a guess."

**a/n yayyy kinda happy ending. i'd say we're about halfway through this story. ik it happened so fast. please leave me lots of comments to wake up to, it literally makes my day.

also, is this cheesy? i dunno how i feel about this chapter and the last.**
