Poem #98// Patterns

49 3 2

Can we dance to the beat of our hearts?
And sing to the sound of our breathing?
Can we count the stars in our eyes?
Can we love one another until we die?

Can we float like the lashes on your skin?
And freeze like the breath against my neck?
Can we burn like the color on your cheeks?
Can we love one another until after we're at the peak?

Can we sleep to the sound of our voices?
And wake to the patterns of our snores?
Can we trace the scars of our bodies?
Can we love one another like we're nobody?

Can we love like we were meant to?
And stay loyal to each other?
For I swear I'll never leave you,
I'll watch over you while you rest.

Because when I am with you,
I am at my best.
