Chapter 2 ~ A Best-Guy-Friend

I sat in my lab seat, twiddling my thumbs and fidgeting with the curls of hair bouncing off my shoulders. I anxiously awaited the time of the tardy bell to arrive. I hated my ADHD. It doesn't allow me to have patience. I clenched my jaw, shut my eyes, and leaned my head back. When I opened them, I found a boy smiling at me. My eye twitched and then I snapped my head back up.

I tapped my foot and let my fingers tap dance across the wooden desk. I hummed to a classical tone and thought about Alicia and Olivia.

Are they really my friends? Sure, me and Olivia were like sisters before we learned our ABC's and Alicia was the first person me and her met in high school, but I need a real best friend. Like.. A best guy friend. I haven't had one since 5th grade.

And trust me, it's awesome. Who says boys and girls can't get along without love? I do.

It's less drama, less judgmental, less gossip.. More fun, more exciting, and more hilarious! I'm thinking about making one today.. No offense, but Alicia is pretty judgmental and her favorite topic to chat about: School gossip. Then, she changed Olivia into a freak like her.

Being my awesome, yet awkward self, I had the will to survive and didn't talk about Hollywood all day or who's cheating on their girlfriend and who's not.. I tried changing subjects whenever we talk, but Alicia always seemed to fasten her seatbelt and make a U-Turn making us talk about her ex-boyfriends again. They always teased the nerds and geeks alongside with the jocks, but I didn't. But I also didn't do anything about it. I just ignored them. A pang of shame erupted in the pit of my stomach.

I put head down and rested my head in my arms. After what seemed like years passed by, the tardy bell rang. I perked up and let out a little hiccup of excitement. I looked to the seat next to me. It was empty.. I felt sad.

I looked around and everyone had a partner, but me. How convenient.. I noticed how every partnership had a male and a female. This could've been my chance to have a new best guy friend. But no, 'cause Karma's a "female dog." If you know what I mean..

I mentally rolled my eyes and cussed Karma out.

My eyes lit up as I saw a beautiful, blonde teacher standing nearby the doorway and nodding as if having a quick conversation with someone. She walked into the room, leaving behind a kid with a leather jacket leaning on the doorway. She motioned for him to come inside and he slowly dragged his feet across the dirty floor tiles and stood up next to her.

"Hello, class. I'm Ms.Kramer, your new science teacher. This is a new transfer student, Robert."

He pulled his shades down, exposing gorgeous, deep brown eyes. I swear I was literally drooling over him as if his eyes were made of chocolate and I was a little girl full of lust. I licked my lips as he smiled and waved to the class. Some people would say that teenagers had the million dollar smile and I'd think he was one of those people. I gulped as he made his way over and sat in the empty seat next to me.

"Class, for the rest of the period, you will get to know your lab partner. As already discussed, you will receive a different one next semester if wanted or if I see any problems," Ms. Kramer said and plastered on a smile onto her face.

When I felt his eyes searching me, the cold and thin air around me rose up around 250 degrees. I felt as if a bat was trapped inside my rib cage and was flying around recklessly, desperately finding a way out, when he turned his seat and scooted towards me.

He arched an eyebrow and reached for my hand and pulled it into his.. He smiled and I bit my tongue.

Snap out of it Kate, he's testing you.. Shut up conscience, don't you see I'm trying. But, why am you so nervous around him? This is not like me.. I know right? Usually you're a weirdo.. Shut up, conscience. Whatever..
