I can't stop writing! This part is so exciting!! :D
Alex's POV
I set everything up. I had been wearing the necklace for a week, for good measure. Everything was perfect. I had the candle wax and holy water in a bowl in the middle of the clearing outside my house. I placed the dagger right by it. The sun was still up, but was going down slowly. I had changed, so I was wearing all black, with no shoes. I still had the necklace on, and it had filled with a bright green essence. I walked around the feild, waiting for night to come, anticipating Amy's rebirth. A car drove up, and Amy's friends came out. The two girls looked like they were really trying to be strong, but they were freaking out inside. Who wouldn't? They get a call from someone they've never met, saying that their dead old friend might be able to come back. I didn't expect any different. The brown haired boy's face was hard, un-readable. They walked over to me, and saw my strange get-up.
"What are you doing?" Elizabeth asked.
"I'm getting your friend back." I replied, not missing a beat.
"She's dead." the red head one stated. She said it as a fact, which of course to them it is, but excitement tingled down my spine knowing it wasn't going to stay a true fact for long.
"What if I told you I could get her back? That she could live again, talk again, walk again? Would you believe me?" I asked.
"You're a freak." The red headed one spat, and turned around. I forget her name. Mark stopped her by grabbing her arm. She tugged at it, but he had a firm grip.
"Wait Courtney," He said. Yes, that was her name! I silently thanked him that he said it out loud.
"What?" She snapped.
"What if he's telling the truth. What it Amy really does come back?"
"Then she's a freak and a zombie and not the real Amy!" She shouted, and pushed away from him. Mark let go, and she ran away, not even bothering to take the car. Mark turned to Elizabeth.
"Liz?" He asked her hopefully. She only sadly shook her head, and went to sit in the car. He turned to face me.
"Well, what do I have to do?"
"All you have to do is give her this letter," I handed him the letter, "And then call the number on the envelope tomorrow. If no one answers, come by in the afternoon." I said. He looked down at the letter, then back to me.
"Aren't you going to stay with her?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Why?"
"I have to go."
"You're an ass."
"I'm the ass who's bringing your friend back." I'm surprised I could still use my wit, even when my mind felt foggy and tired. It's funny how the realization of your true demise makes you tired. I guess anything about death would make a person tired. He nodded. I looked at him, really looked at him. He hadn't been handling Amy's death very well. He had dark circles under his eyes, his hands were twitching, and he was breathing quite heavily. I sudden thought occured to me.
"Why didn't you look for her all this time?" I asked. He looked at me, then slumped his shoulder's in defeat.
"I don't know. I was scared. Scared of what the outcome would be. Scared that Amy really was dead. It was easier to say she was MIA then dead. And know that I know the truth--" He cut off, almost crying. He sucked it up, and stood straight again.
"It's okay." I said. He probably wouldn't call, or come by. He would be angry with himself when he woke up for believing this lunatic. I looked him straight in the eye.
"You have to come, okay? Even if you don't believe me, you have to come." I said, almost pleadingly.
"Okay, I will come." He said, and then left for the car, clutching the letter tightly.
"And don't read the letter!" I shouted when he got in his car. I shook my head, and looked up at the sun. It would become dark in about two hours. And if Shadow was looking at my every move, she would be here any minute. I had unfinished business with her. And, as if on cue, she emerded from the thick pine trees.
"Why hello." She said slyly.
"I need to talk to you."
"So you do." She said, walking close to me, "And what does the little angel want to talk about?" It took every ounce of strength I had to not push her out the way and save Amy.
"Listen, and don't interrupt." I said, and she looked at me innocently.
"I won't." She said. I nodded, then continued.
"Amy's in that vial, and I'm getting her out." When I said that, she looked confused at first, but realization slowly crossed her face. She grabbed onto my shirt, like Clara had done, and was crying. Actually crying! The last time she ever showed any emotion for other than for an evil cause, we had both been alive, and in England.
"Don't do it Alex, please. I'll do anything for you not to do it." She sobbed.
"Would you do it?" I asked. I knew I was asking my ex girlfriend to die for my, well, for lack of a better word human. But if I let her live anyway, she'd just do more damage. I needed to kill her.
"Would I do what?" She asked.
"Would you go into that vial if it meant I was staying alive?" I asked. She looked like a deer caught in headlights. This was amazing, she wasn't saying no. She was thinking about it!
"Emily," I used her real name, "I might actually have a chance to be happy with this girl, and if you really loved me, then you'd want to help me. Help me do this, Shadow." I said. She stepped back, shaking her head.
"No! No! You can rot in hell Alex!" She screamed, and ran into the forest. I sighed, so much for that idea. I looked up at the sky. I still had some time to kill. I walked around and around the field. I thought about what it would be like in that tube. Amy said it was cold, and that she felt empty. She also was unnaturally calm, though she was still frightened. Her energy was probably the first to go. I wondered what she would be like when she came back. Would she be the same? Would she have been in there too long for me to save the real Amy Kellen? I shuddered at the thought. No, she will be fine. I didn't realize how lost I was in my thoughts, for when I blinked, everything was suddenly dark, the only source of light coming from my necklace. I wonder why Mark didn't ask me about it, but then again, he didn't ask a lot of important questions.
"It's time." I said to myself, and, already knowing the way, I went to the bowl.I picked up the dagger, and sliced the inside of my hand with it. I watched as my own dark red blood dripped into the melted candle wax and holy water, giving it a reddish color. I smiled inside, knowing that in Heaven, I would not have any blood to drip, and where I'm going, I will have nothing at all. I dropped my necklace in it.
I then pressed my hand to the cut until it stopped bleeding. I thought of the piece of paper that had the incantation on it.
"Bring back my loved one, Amy Marie Kellen, and I shall take her place." I said. I had memorized it the night before.Suddenly, the glass tube, light up in front of me. Amy appeared in the middle, and it broke my heart how weak she was. She was almost gone. I deep voice rang out across the field.
"Is this the person you wish to bring back?" It said.
"Yes, that is she."
"Give me your soul." He said, and I took the necklace off and dropped it into the bowl. The concoction started to rise up from the bowl in swirls, and twirled around me, binding me there. I felt a burning sensation all over my body. This was it. This was really it. Amy was coming back, and I was going to hell.
