Cold

She crossed the rainy street in a blur of sweat and sweet
In between layers of soft warm clothing that somehow still lets the cold break in and bother her skin
She thought about how likely it was for her to have forgotten something
In between layers of stress and hurry
Running around
In the pouring rain
It's a cold night
And she feels it in her blood
Underneath layer of clothes
But before her stands her house
And the smell of comfort pours out from the windows
As she breathes in the sent of home
And she thinks, for such a short second
Nobody would know it had happened
But she knew in her heart
That life wouldn't nearly be as great without a place to come back to
But she stopped in her tracks
As she realized her home was far away from there
Because before her stood a house
And inside was a man
With a woman that was no longer her
And her place at the table is filled by someone else
She no longer holds the key to that door
Or the sheets in that bed
She sighed
She had done it again
But no more
No more
There couldn't be more
There was nothing left for her,
There
She whispered goodbye to regret and resentment
She felt in the pit of her stomach
Relief
And sadness
But she walked away
And in between layers of clothing
She swore she had never felt more cold
