Chapter 35

"Is there anything we can do?" Jessie asked.

"I don't think so." I mumbled.

"Listen, I think we should put all of our differences aside. I've acted like a nine year old everything. I see how much you love Rick, and I promise I'm going to stay out of it. I'm sorry." She replied.

"I appreciate it." I replied.

"I'd love to help out if I could." She stated.

"I'll let you know if there's anything you can do." I replied.

She nodded before walking down the steps of the porch.

I jumped up from the chair beside the bed, running to get Denise.

"His heart beat is slowing." I stated.

"Shit!" She hissed, following me back into the bedroom.

"The fever is rising." She mumbled, flushing his IV before injecting a dose of antibiotics.

"What do we do?" I asked.

"Get his fever back down as soon as possible." She replied.

I nodded before running to get a wet washcloth.

She put it on his forehead before beginning to strip his clothes off.

"Um, you should probably be doing this." She replied.

"It's fine, go ahead." I replied.

"Just so you know, I'm lesbian." She stated.

I shrugged my shoulders. I didn't care. All I cared about right now was Rick getting his fever down.

She cut his shirt off before pulling his sweats off.

"He's gonna be okay, I promise." She replied.

"I know he is." I mumbled.

"You wanna know the gender?" Denise asked Maggie.

She looked to Glenn before looking back to Denise.

"Yeah." Glenn replied.

I smiled, watching their excitement grow as they saw their baby on the screen.

"It's a boy!" Denise exclaimed.

A few tears escaped my eyes as Maggie started crying.

"What about you? Do you want to know?" Denise asked me.

"No. I'll wait until Rick wakes up again." I answered.

She smiled before turning the machine off.

"Thank God." I sighed, Rick opening his eyes.

"How long was I out?" He asked.

"A week and four days." I answered.

"His fever is back down to normal. We need to keep an eye on it." Denise declared.
