I sigh as my feet slowly drag me towards my home. Everyday at school seems to drain me more and more. A car pulls up next to me and it's the person I'd really rather not see ever again in this life time.
David.
"What do you want?" I ask
"I can give you a ride." He mouths
"Where's you're little fan?" I ask
"Probably walking home." He mouths before giving me his beautiful smile
I consider it for a moment before agreeing, because my entire body aches and I just want to get home ASAP so that I can sleep.
"Want to come over to mine? I could really use help on my English assignment." He asks
"I don't know, I'm tired and swimming in homework myself. Besides it would be kind of hard to help you considering I can't hear you" I say
"Come on, Arabella misses you." He mouths, mentioning his 2 year old sister
"If this is some lame attempt at getting me to forgive you, you're going to have to work a lot harder than this." I inform him
"I don't see why you're finding it so hard to forgive me." He mouths as he starts driving
"Maybe it's cause everytime you ask for it, you act like a dick." I reply
"I miss us Shanna." He mouths after a few moments of silence that I know is awkward even though I can't hear it
"Well what are you gonna do with a deaf girlfriend?" I say mocking his aforesaid words as he pulls into my driveway
"Thank you." I say grabbing my backpack. He grabs my hand as I'm about to get out of his truck.
"Shanna I'm truly am sorry. I'm swimming in my guilt and I don't know how to deal with it" He mouths and I nod before wiggling my hand out do his grasp and walking up my drive. I'm not buying an ounce of his bs.

I sit in my room trying to do my homework. When I feel my phone vibrate, James is calling me. Isn't he so hilarious, soon after the call stops and I get a text from him.
"I'm so so sorry Shanna, I forgot..." I sigh and roll my eyes
"What do you want?" I text back
James 😒: picking you up in ten.
'Since when are we friends?' I text back
James 😒: Since I'm your 'new ears' as the district puts it.
"As if you're not getting paid
James 😒: As if my entire schedule didn't get changed for you.
"Fine whatever." I text back sighing
A few minutes , he enters my room and startles me.
'Your mother let me in." He signs and I nod before following him downstairs and getting into his truck.
'Where are we going?" I sign and he doesn't reply
Soon we arrive in front of a house.
"Who's house?" I sign
"Tawni's." He signs and I glare at him
"I hope you don't expect me to go in there cause I'm not going." I sign
"She just wants to get thing straight between y'all." James signs with a pleading look
"I don't care about her taking my boyfriend James! I care about loosing my hearing and everything else that I lost with it. I care about her and her stupid friends making my new life ten times harder then it already is." I sign angry and he nods
"I understand, but the counselors are threatening to transfer you to an all girls deaf school two states away if you can't cope here. This is apart of it." He signs back and I sigh before getting out of his truck and slamming the door behind me.
James knocks on her door and she answers giving him a wide smile and me a less than distasteful look. We walk in and I see her say something.
"Do you want something to drink?" James signs to me
"No, she's probably try to poison me." I sign back and I see James tell her that I'm not thirsty.
We sit on her couch and she says something to James with a pissed look.
"She doesn't want your deafness to interfere with her and David." James signs to me
"Funny, her and David practically caused my deafness." I say and I'm assuming James tells her that.
She's in the middle of saying something when I interrupt her.
"Look I don't want David. If you think that he still wants me, take it up with him. Don't come crying to me when he makes you go blind." I verbally say, getting up and heading back out of her front door, James hot on my heels, right behind me.
"Shanna, what's wrong?" James signs to me as we make it to her driveway
"I'm so sick of everyone treating my deafness like its a burden on them. What about me? What about all that I lost? I guess that doesn't matter huh?" I say and he just pulls me into a big hug
"You matter to me." He signs simply after we break the embrace before getting into his truck. I stand dumbfounded for a while before getting into his truck before he drives back towards my home.
