Chapter 15

I tossed and turned at night, having horrible nightmares. They were all like the first one I had that one night, where I was in the middle of a war zone. But these had more definition; they were more real. And another thing was that they were all eerily similar. The scenery was different every time; lush forests, grasslands, and deserts, for example. But wherever it was set, there was still a battle. And an all-encompassing feeling of fear, sometimes tinged with hatred, sometimes with sadness. I had a feeling I was experiencing more than one side of the struggle.

I woke up abruptly after a particularly violent one. A man died right in front of me, and as he took his last breath, he seemed to stare right at me, until the life left his eyes. I looked behind me; there was no one. I looked at the display on the wall, and noticed it was 5:38. I moved to pull the blanket back over my head and fall back asleep, but remembered that Nathan and Nolan were coming over in five hours and twenty-two minutes. If I fell asleep then, I wouldn't wake up in time to get ready. So I sighed, and rolled out of bed onto the floor. I winced at the cold wood, then stood up slowly. I walked to the opposite wall and fumbled around for the light switch, finally feeling the plastic and flipping it on. I rubbed my eyes and walked to the bathroom to take a shower.

After taking a shower and getting dressed in a t-shirt and athletic shorts, I walk over to the kitchen. The clock on the oven says it's 6:15. Still way too early. I decided to watch TV until about ten, then start breakfast. Hopefully the planet we're parked on can still pick up a TV signal.

-----------------------------

After a particularly funny episode of Regular Show, I get up and walk over to the kitchen to start the food. About forty-five minutes later, I'm told that there's someone at the door. I set down the plate of pancakes and walk over, opening the door. Nathan walks in, scratching his hair. It's standing straight up.

"Who won?" I asked, smirking.

"Won what?" He asked.

"Your epic battle with a badger. Your hair is a complete mess."

"It's too damn early for this. What's cooking?"

"Pancakes, sausages, eggs and I've got some juice."

"Ha ha yessss..." he says, and pushes past me to the island with the food. Rude, much?

"Hey! Aren't you going to wait for Nolan?" I call after him.

"It's his problem he's late," He yells back, while stuffing a sausage in his mouth.

"You're fifteen minutes early, moron," I said. He stops and looks up at me, then shrugs.

"Well then, it's his problem he's not as early as me," he responds. I rolled my eyes, but walked over to the island and munched on a rolled up pancake while waiting. Soon Nolan arrives and we all started eating.

"So..." I began, "How did everyone sleep?"

"Like a baby on drugs." Nathan said.

"Er, okay. A bit graphic. What about you?" I asked, looking at Nolan.

"Yeah I slept fine. Did you sleep well?"

"I guess. But I kept having all these violent dreams. It was pretty weird." They looked knowingly at each other, then back at me.

"That's understandable. We are getting closer to home." Nolan said.

"Okay, you understand it. Wonderful. but I don't." I reply.

"All it is, is that you can kind of see what's going on in different parts of Mandacarion. It's pretty nifty, actually. However, they're not very pleasant, are they?" Nathan asked.

"Actually, no. I woke up five hours ago because of a particularly disturbing one. So does that mean that's what's happening all over the planet?"

"Unfortunately, yes. And that's why you're here, on this ship. There's a massive war going on."

"Oh," I said, a little confused. "But why?"

"Well, you're kind of the reason. There's a prophecy, as stupid as that word sounds, that someone's going to commit genocide on all the proletarians. And most people believe that that person is you."

"What? Why? I'm not crazy or genocidal or anything!"

"Yeah, we know. But the proles don't. So they've declared war on the ruling class."

"But that's dumb. Why aren't they just sending people to find me?"

"War is hardly ever logical, Aimée." Nolan said.

"Okay, so why was I dumped out in Texas then?"

"To protect you. Your parents knew that they would try to find and kill you, so they rocketed you off to a planet whose inhabitants look similar to us," Nathan explained.

I was silent for a while, trying to soak it all in. Pretty much an entire planet wanted me dead because of a misunderstanding.

"What happened to my parents?" I ask, after a time.

"Well, they just kind of disappeared. To this day, no one knows where they are or if they're alive or dead."

"Oh." I was silent again for a few minutes. "Why does everyone think that I'm the person specified by the prophecy?"

"It says that the person would be female, have red hair like a flame, be of regal blood, and be an only child."

"Is being all that so rare?"

"Yes. most people have at least three children, almost no one has hair as red as yours, and well, there aren't that many regal people."'

"Wait," I said, "That means,"

"Yeah, you're royalty. Bet you never thought about that back on earth, huh?" Nolan interjected.

"Well, to be honest, no. I mean, being adopted adds an air of mystery, but you'd never think of that."

Ok guys, I completely forgot about this. I posted a new story, America, Courtesy of Craig's List yesterday. It's realistic fiction (I'm branching out! [; ) and I hope you check it out!

Additionally, kind, wonderful bbalchica13 has agreed to take up writing Valentine's Day, so if you also started reading that, head on over to her profile in a few weeks and see if she's started writing more! I'm looking forward to seeing what she writes. :)

So, fan, comment, vote, follow.... say 'hi' if you see me on the street, even! (But, do tell me that you're from Wattpad. I'll be less confused.) Bye!
