Chapter 1.13 - Dog-Eat-Dog World

On that night, the very same stray who had been treated to a delicious egg and cheese sandwich in exchange for her hostage roamed the vacant streets. As she scoured for scraps along the sidewalks, her black nose picked up a new scent, one she was unfamiliar with. It was akin to that of another dog's, yet different, and somehow wrong.

She felt frightened by this new presence, and yet, also compelled to challenge it. Facing the direction of where she sniffed out this new presence, the dog began to bark and snarl.

Then she saw it. Stepping out of the shadows was a form certainly canine in appearance, but far larger, and much more fearsome. The poor little dog's barks were reduced to a whimper, and she began to back away in an attempt to retreat from this strange and nightmarish beast.

It was too late. The creature's yellow eyes had already locked onto its prey.
