Nathan POV

"Of, course, that's the perfect way to get her!" I whispered to myself as I jumped up and down in the empty hallway of Scret School.

Soup, welcome to this story. My name is Nathan Axe as you can see in the title above. And you may think that I'm a tall, self-conceded jerk, but, guess what, I'm not! I have slightly curly brown hair, although I am taller than average. I have blue eyes and a not so muscular body. I prefer to use brains over bronze. Just like Annabeth.

Annabeth Chase is a girl who goes to my high school. We met when she was in her Junior year, along with me, in a free period. I believed we immediately clicked, we both had many things in common, personality wise. We were both at the top of our class in all subjects and became friends shortly after. The only thing that we didn't have in common, was that Annabeth was more athletic than me. Then again, most people are.

Over the years, I had slowly but surely fallen in love with her beautiful ways. The way she walked and talked and always told guys to go away when the asked her out. She was amazing and everything I could've ever asked for. That's why, in our senior year of high school, I was going to ask her out to the crystal ball.

The Crystal Ball is annual tradition for the senior on the last week of school. It's basically a farewell party the the school throws all of us. Each year the pick three colors that everyone has to go by. For example, last year it was purple, magenta, and white. Most of the guys wore white tux's and the girl wore the other two colors. Every once in a while there was a switcheroo, but that didn't really matter. This year , the colors were blue, green, and black. (How fitting ;) )

I was planing on asking Annabeth today at lunch. We usually sat at a table with one of our other friends and Annabeth's brother, Malcolm. Unfortunately, Annabeth had informed me that he had something to do at the beginning of the day so he wouldn't be sitting with us. As much as I would miss him, I knew that this was the perfect time to ask her out. The bell rang right on time and I tried acting completely normal, straightening my back and rushing down the hallway to the cafeteria, but not before grabbing my lunch. Even though the food here wasn't actually terrible, I still liked to pack together my organic and healthy lunch. As I made my way through the aggressive crowd of hungry teenagers, I looked towards I table, hoping to see if Annabeth had gotten there before me. She usually did.

Meeting my expectations, she was there, unpacking her food while holding up a book with her other hand. Silently laughing at her, I pushed my way diagonally threw the sea of students before reaching our table. Sitting down, I managed to get threw with a few cuts and scrapes. Just kidding.

It took a couple of minutes before I could muster the courage to talk about the Crystal Ball with her.

"Look, Annabeth, I was just wondering if you maybe wanted to go to the Ball Saturday with me? I can pick you up if you want?" I asked, unsure of her answer even if I knew what I wanted it to be.

Of course I'll go with you, I like you so much! Was what I wanted her to say.

"I'm so sorry, I already have a date," she informed me, a sincere smile on her face. Before I could say anything else, the bell rang, signaling our departure. She smiled at me once again and then left. I was heartbroken, to say the least. But I decided to go anyway. Maybe Annabeth would pay attention to me anyways.

"Aw, my little boy going to his high school party," my mother cooed, placing her hands on her heart.
