“I hate her.”
My mistress had collapsed into her bed, still wearing the gown.
“Your fathers girlfriend?”
“Who else. She’s....a devil! How can he like her?”
I moved towards her bed, hoping she wouldn’t reject me.
“Perhaps she just appears that way.”
She sat back up and I leaned on the wall by the head of her bed. She sighed.
“I hope you’re right.”
We heard a knock on the door, I opened it to find Ethan waiting outside. He walked in, Anrai following him.
“Jayda.”
“Hey”
“I never got a chance to tell you how beautiful you look.”
“Thanks, did you find the room okay?”
Dr. Mayin had invited Ethan to stay with the family until he secured a home for himself.
“I did.”
He sat down next to her on the bed.
“Will Anrai stay with you?”
“That was part of the reason I came, it isn’t fitting for him to stay with me, is there a quarters where he could sleep? He would be no trouble.”
“I’m sure not. He can stay with Hayden."
She looked at me.
“You’ll show him where?”
“Yes’m.”
“You may go."
I nodded and walked out of the room, Anrai following me.
“Do you need to grab anything?”
“I should get my clothes.”
“Okay.”
We walked up to the third floor of the house where all of the unoccupied rooms are.
The two floors above are the slaves quarters.
We walked into the room where Ethan was staying and Anrai grabbed a small bag from the corner of the room.
“Okay, let’s go.”

Jayda and Ethan sat in her room laughing over the years they had spent together.
"You know, I've really missed you Ethan."
"I missed you too Jay."
They hugged, him squeezing her very tight for a long moment, as if to make up for the lost time.
Jayda began to cough and a moment later Ethan released her.
"Sorry, I guess I missed you more than I thought."
