"Numb" A Rhyming Poem

I tell her "I'm fine".
It's easy over a screen
because she can't tell I'm lying.

But she knows better and asks
"are you sure?"
because she can see through my iPhone mask.

"I don't know,"
I reply honestly.
My brain feels like it's about to overflow.

I feel so dumb.
I can't seem answer a simple question, but I try.
"I feel numb"

It feels right.
She immediately takes it as a bad thing,
but it's the perfect name for this unknown parasite.

"There's too many emotions overriding my brain,"
I tell her
"It makes me question if I'm sane."

She doesn't text back.
The silence echoes in my head,
but my heart still feels like it's under attack.

"That's ok."
"How could you say that?"
I ask, feeling betrayed.

"We all go numb sometimes."
It takes me a second,
but then a chim.

"It's true,"
I tell myself.
This is something that everyone goes through.

I won't die.
I can get through this.
All I have to do is try.
