Lucena didn't know how she and Annabeth had gotten back to Camp Half-Blood so fast. Or at least it felt like it took no time at all. All she knew was that one minute she watched as Mount St Helens exploded into flames, taking Percy with it in the process, and neither of the girls had said a word since.

Now they stood in front of Chiron, Clarisse, the Stoll brothers, Silena and Beckendorf right outside the entrance to the Labyrinth. They all looked so hopeful.

"My dears!" Chiron greeted them with a warm smile, then he looked around and his smile fell, "Where is Tyson and Grover? And Percy?"

"They, uh - " Lucena choked. "Percy, he - " That was all she was able to get out before her lower lip began trembling again, and tears pooled in her eyes.

The others hadn't seemed to notice how distraught the girls looked until now. Lucena was paler than ever, every shadow in the forest clung to her to the point where she was hard to even see and dry tears stained her cheeks. Annabeth didn't look any better - her hair was a mess, and her usual brave face had crumbled into a look of defeat and misery.

"I have to go," She mumbled just as a sob crawled its way up her throat and she disappeared on the spot before anyone could stop her.

She found herself down by the lake again, and she sunk to her knees. She wrapped one arm around herself and one hand covered her mouth as she sobbed. It wasn't one of those silent sobs. It was loud, barely muffled by the palm of her hand, and absolutely gut-wrenching.
