Necklace

She never wanted him to leave

And he never wanted to go

But two different paths they took,

No matter which direction they looked

But before he left

He gave her a necklace

He tied it around her neck

And she smiled at it

It wasn't that pretty

It wasn't real silver

But it meant so much

He said that their paths would cross once again,

If she always believed it would

And if she found herself lacking faith,

She would hold onto that necklace

She never took it off

And as she ages, so does the ugly charm

But it's beautiful to her

She loves it as she loved him

And her hope stays alight forever
