Chapter 17

Banishree sat in the balcony, her gaze fixed on the outside world. It had been a week since Arjun's birthday, and she had been avoiding him ever since that intimate moment they shared. The awkwardness between them weighed heavily on her mind.

As night fell, Banishree heard Arjun's voice along with others outside the room. "Chal, Goodnight," (Come on, Goodnight) she heard her husband say before the door creaked open.

"Arey, Shree darwaza khula kyu hai. Hostel mein koi nahi tha. Aise darwaza khula kyu rakha hai," (Hey, Shree, why is the door open? There's no one in the hostel. Why did you leave the door open like this?) Arjun asked as he entered the room, noticing the open door.

Banishree didn't answer. She had purposely left the door open to avoid facing him, hoping to retreat into her own thoughts without having to confront the tension between them.

Arjun knew his wife was deliberately avoiding him. In the past week, she had barely talked to him. Determined to address the tension between them, Arjun quickly took a warm shower before approaching Banishree, who pretended to be in deep sleep.

Observing his wife's tense form, Arjun knew she was awake. He went near her and sat on the bed, hovering over her. He put both his hands near her head, gently caging her. "Shree," he said huskily, tracing the contours of her face with his fingertips.

She tightly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep. But Arjun wasn't fooled. "I know you are awake," he said, chuckling softly. Slowly, she opened her eyes, and for a moment, both were lost in each other's gaze.

"Why are you ignoring me, Shree? Your poor husband?" he asked teasingly.

Just then, her eyes filled with tears, and she cried like a child. "Arey, Arey, kyu ro Rahi ho?" (Hey, hey, why are you crying?) he asked, confused.

"Mujhe nahi pata. Hume bas Rona aa raha hai," (I don't know. I just feel like crying) she said between sobs. Arjun couldn't help but be amused by her sudden outburst.

Arjun gently patted Banishree's head, offering sweet words of comfort until her sobs subsided. "Kya hua, Shree? Batao mujhe. Did I do something inappropriate that day? Did I go too far?" he asked once she was calm. ( What happened, Shree? Tell me)

Banishree looked down and shook her head. "We are married, Shree. What we did was normal. But that's another thing if I made you uncomfortable," he said.

Banishree quickly shook her head. "Aisa nahi hai, Doctor Babu. Ye sab tumhare liye naya hai. Hum dar gaye the," she honestly admitted. ( It's not like that, Doctor Babu. This is new for both of us. I was just scared)

Arjun took a deep breath, his heart heavy with concern. "Believe me, Shree. Ye sab mere liye bhi naya hai," he said softly. "We will take one step at a time. Okay?" he suggested. (Believe me, Shree. Ye sab mere liye bhi naya hai)

She nodded in agreement, feeling reassured by his words.

Arjun was making his makeshift bed on the floor when Banishree said, "Doctor Babu." He said, "Hmm."

"Aap idhar hi so jaaye na," she said, patting the empty space next to her on the bed. ( Sleep here)

"Are you sure?" he asked.

She nodded, her eyes filled with sincerity.

Arjun quietly settled next to her. Banishree was coyly staring at her husband's side profile, admiring his long thick lashes and chiselled jaw. When Arjun felt her gaze on him, he turned towards her. Both lost in each other's gaze, they drifted off to sleep, finding comfort in each other's presence.

Arjun was peacefully sleeping when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his nether regions. "My... god, if this keeps going on, I will never have kids!" he cried out, clutching himself in agony. To his surprise, he realized that Bani had kneed him, but she was still in deep sleep.

Slowly recovering from the pain, Arjun attempted to get back to sleep when suddenly, Bani threw her legs and arms over his torso and neck, nearly choking him in the process. "Bani, what are you doing?!" he gasped, struggling to free himself from her grip.

Finally managing to disentangle himself, Arjun thought he could finally get some rest. But just as he was about to drift off to sleep, Bani turned to the other side. "Thank goodness," he muttered to himself.

However, his peace was short-lived as he felt a palm connect to his cheek with a resounding smack. "What The Fuck! Ye sare atrangi mujhe hi milte hai kya," he screamed, startled awake. And if that wasn't enough, Bani then kicked his butt, causing him to tumble down the bed in a comical fashion.

Rubbing his cheek and nursing his bruised ego, Arjun couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "Looks like I'm in for a wild night," he muttered to himself, resigning to the unpredictable antics of his slumbering wife.

To avoid further display of Banishree's sleep martial arts, Arjun made a makeshift bed on the floor and slept. As morning approached, Banishree woke up and found the bed empty. Confused, she stepped onto the floor, only to accidentally step on someone's face.

"Mumma. Not again. I can't take this anymore. This is torture," she heard a painful cry.

Hearing the cry, Banishree quickly withdrew her foot and peeked down to the floor, only to find Arjun glaring back at her, holding his nose in pain.

"Aap niche kya kar rahe hai, Doctor Babu?" (What are you doing down there, Doctor Babu?)

He glared at her again. "Nach Raha hu," (I'm dancing) he spoke, irritated. "Pura raat meri biwi nach rahi thi, ab Mai nach raha hu," (My wife was dancing all night, so now I'm dancing) he said sarcastically, glaring at her.

"Hein?" (Huh?) she asked, confused.

"Sach batao Shree, do I look like a punching bag to you?" (Tell me the truth, Shree, do I look like a punching bag to you?) he asked, sitting up and moving closer to her.

Banishree crawled back, looking everywhere but at him. "Ya koi khatara scooter, jo pure raat mujhe kick maar rahi thi," (Or am I some broken scooter that you were kicking me all night?) she looked down, embarrassed.

"Sorry," she said, pouting.

Arjun couldn't stay mad at Banishree for long, despite the discomfort he experienced throughout the night. With a sigh, he softened his expression and reached out to gently lift her chin, making her look at him.

"Shree, it's okay," he said, his tone more gentle now. "But please, no more sleep fighting, alright?"

Banishree nodded, her expression contrite. "Krishna ji ki Kasam Doctor Babu. Aayenda nahi karenge. (I promise, Doctor Babu. I'll try my best,)" she replied earnestly.

Arjun smiled, relieved. "Good. Now, let's get up and start the day. I'm sure we both could use a good cup of chai after last night's adventures," he said, pulling her up from the bed.

Banishree chuckled, feeling grateful for his understanding.
