chapter five ; a tulip

mira pov

Yesterday's incident is what my head is replaying all over again. Last night I slept and today I woke up in my room in the same year, in the same world where he doesn't know me.

I don't know if I'll see him again.

So it's not a dream. Did I lose my head or what? What is going on here? Why did everyone tell me it's 1944? But it looks exactly like 2024. Modern buildings, AI devices, 5G internet, many small and major robots - everything I could imagine in 2024.

Everything else is just as old as history except that he doesn't remember anything. I don't go to my university. But I get ready anyway hoping I'll see him again.

I make my way to the beach again. It's not as sunny as yesterday. I hold a strong grip on the shawl I'm wearing while walking on the beach; it leaves shoe marks. Birds fly above my head. My eyes wonder where they are going.

Something cracks under my feet. I quickly move my legs. It's a paper. Before I realize I pick it up. That's when I feel someone's hand on my shoulder.

"Hey."

I don't look at him and yet I would recognise this voice anywhere.

I ask, "Why are you here?" But the thing I wanted to tell him is thanks for showing up. The paper is in my purse now before he even noticed.

He points at a store nearby the beach as my eyes follows his finger. "I work there in my free time," he smiles and looks at me, his hands are placed on his back.

"What do you mean?"

"That's my grandfather's shop. I help him there. Also I don't have any class today."

"Oh," silence follows after that. All we hear is the waves crushing. It's calming.

"Why are you here? Unless you wanna see me," he chuckles. He still have those dimple lines when he laughs. And his fangs.

Cute.

"I don't know," is what I tell him. Was it entirely true? I don't think so.

"Can I come to the shop? I mean I'm bored so," I shrug.

"Why not? There's no customer at this time. You could get a nice tour," I follow him after that.

It's a flower shop. Sweet smell feels my nose while he tells me all the flowers name one by one. There's something exact same about the way he adores them. My Sunghoon loved flowers. He loved tulips a lot.

That's when I ask him the question.

"What's your favourite flower?"

"Cosmos as of now."

What about tulips? I wanted to ask. But I don't.

"Here, let me show you something," he grabs my wrist. While something happens inside me. That feeling whenever he'd touched me lingers on my faint memory.

I find myself in a small garden located behind the shop. So many cosmos flowers.

"You grew them?" A smile creeps through my lips. It's really pretty.

"Yeah."

But at one corner was there a yellow tulip dancing with the wind that he didn't notice.
