CHAPTER: 15 SPARK OF DOUBT

Start from the beginning

"And the heart..." Yoongi continued, his voice a whisper, yet it resonated like a deafening roar in the silence that followed. "It belonged to one of the pilots of the ship, the same ship that carried all the drugs we ordered. It's all gone, Namjoon. All of it."

Namjoon felt the ground beneath him shift as if the very foundation of his reality was crumbling. It was a surreal moment, a nightmare unfolding before his eyes. The air grew thick with tension, suffocating him like a vice grip.

At that moment, Yoongi's words painted a haunting image in Namjoon's mind. The scarecrow, a grotesque puppet of despair, draped in the very substance that spelled the gang's downfall. Its presence loomed over them like a malevolent specter, casting a shadow of dread upon their souls.

The heart, a symbol of life and vitality, now tainted by the darkness of greed. It beat a mournful rhythm, a dirge for the shattered dreams and broken promises that lay in its wake.

Namjoon felt a cold sweat break out on his brow as he realized the magnitude of their situation. It was as if fate itself had conspired against them, weaving a web of deceit and despair from which there was no escape.

At that moment, Yoongi's words were more than just a warning. They were a clarion call, a desperate plea for action in the face of impending doom. And as Namjoon looked into Yoongi's eyes, he saw the reflection of his own fear and uncertainty, mirrored back at him in stark clarity. Namjoon's urgency matched the intensity that Yoongi had unleashed moments ago. His eyes bore into So Hee, seeking answers "So Hee," he implored, his tone urgent and commanding, "did you touch your fingers anywhere near your mouth, nose, or eyes?"

So Hee, still caught in the haunting imagery of Yoongi's revelation, was momentarily lost. The echo of a human heart and the chilling presence of the scarecrow lingered in her mind, making Namjoon's question a distant murmur. Confusion clouded her expression as she tried to bridge the gap between the question and the haunting reality she had witnessed.

Namjoon's words, though urgent, became a mere echo in So Hee's disoriented thoughts. "hunh?" she replied, but at that moment they could not afford even a second of delay, "Yoongi, get her tested, check if she has any drug in her system," Namjoon demanded, his tone resolute. The air crackled with tension as the urgency of the situation demanded swift action.

However, Yoongi, always the pragmatic voice in the storm, had a different perspective. "I don't think she had the drug in her system in the first place," he asserted, his words cutting through the charged atmosphere. "And even if she had, it must have been a very small amount. You saw yourself, she just fainted for an hour only. You know how dangerous ketamine can be, but she seems fine. What we need to check is the facts and the situation we are dealing with. We need to collect as much data as we can for now before jumping to any conclusion."

Namjoon's patience wore thin, his concern for the group's safety overriding all other considerations. "Cut the crap, Yoongi," he snapped. "So Hee is a part of us now. If something goes wrong with her, we would be responsible. I can't afford any casualties at the moment, at least not within the group! Do as I say; I'll inform others about the situation.",

Namjoon's firm directive lingered in the air, at which Yoongi replied, "I... yeah, fine, you," he said, pointing towards So Hee, "come with me. And Namjoon, call a meet. I found something while going through the CCTV footage." The gravity in Yoongi's voice hinted at the urgency of his discovery.

Without sparing a second glance at So Hee, Yoongi pivoted and left the room. His departure was swift, as if time itself was a relentless force propelling him forward. So Hee followed Yoongi out of the room, her steps matching his hurried pace. The corridor stretched before them like a never-ending tunnel, the dim lighting casting long shadows that danced along the walls.

So Hee stole glances at Yoongi as they walked, observing the tension etched into every line of his face. His jaw was clenched with determination, and his eyes bore the weight of the world. It was as if he carried the burden of their entire mission on his shoulders. The atmosphere crackled with an intensity that made So Hee feel uneasy, prompting her to seek a moment of respite.

In an attempt to lighten the mood, she mustered a small smile and joked, "Do you just hate me that much, or are you the same with everyone?" Her words hung in the air, a delicate thread in the midst of the heavy silence.

Yoongi, momentarily caught off guard by the unexpected question, looked at So Hee with a raised eyebrow. "Don't get too ahead of yourself, just because Namjoon supported you doesn't mean you have my trust," he remarked, his voice cutting through the air with a hint of skepticism. The tension in his features lingered, and his gaze bore into So Hee with a scrutiny that sought answers.

"From the time you stepped here, the tragedy befell upon us. Why?" Yoongi's voice held a sharp edge, probing into the shadows of doubt. "Is it just a coincidence as it seems, or did you and your friends plan all of this? Tampering with our security system, concealing your identities, and now this - what do you want, Ms. Han?"

So Hee, taken aback by the sudden interrogation, met Yoongi's gaze with a mix of surprise and earnestness. The weight of suspicion hung heavy in the air, and she felt the need to address the doubts that had surfaced.

"Yoongi, I get it. The circumstances are suspicious, but I promise you, I'm not here to cause harm. My friends and I were thrust into this mess, which we never wanted to be a part of, and give me I chance, I can prove it to you too!" At this, he scoffed, "Hunh, a chance to you so that you and your friend can succeed in your plan and then flee away? Never, just wait, I sure will find out your real intentions, until then enjoy your freedom, but remember, my watchful eyes are always following you!" And saying so he left, leaving So Hee utterly confused, compelling her to think about what did she do to get so much distrust and hatred from Yoongi, it made her question herself and the fact that everyone here thought the same as Yoongi, or did someone believed her?
