inevitable

Truth be told, she needed the cold to overtake her completely.

The rain seemed to seep into her clothes and very being.

She deserved to drown.

She had almost lost him.

And it was her fault.

It's all her fault.

It didn't take long for him to run out and stand hesitantly next to her.

He always did, after all.

The day he didn't was the day the world would have collapsed.

"Hana." He whispered, gently.

So sweet that the melody of his whisper warmed her chilled body.

He reached for her hand to pull her back inside.

She pulled away as if burned.

She didn't deserve to feel his touch.

He needed to stay the hell away from her.

But he also seemed to know that.

"You saved me, Hana. You need to know that." He pleaded.

"No, I didn't. I'm the reason for your suffering." She whispered, tears mingling with the drops of rain.

This time, he cupped her face with his warm, calloused hands.

"You want to know why I didn't give up? It's because of you. I couldn't leave you behind." He replied soothingly.

She leaned into his embrace, taking the pieces he was willing to give her.

He pulled off his own jacket and wrapped it around her softly.

Maybe that was the moment she knew.

Of course, the feeling had always been there.

But something about how he protected her despite her not needing it, warmed her.

That he still treated her as someone to care for and not as an immovable force.

If she was being honest, this feeling was inevitable.

"You save me, and I'll save you, alright? Promise?" She murmured, shuffling even closer to him.

He just pulled her in close and tucked his face into her neck, smiling into her skin.

"I promise." He responded.

She startled awake, breathing heavily.

She stared out the window as she regained control over herself.

The memories of her past seemed to come in bursts.

Tonight's dream was all too vivid though.

Almost as if she could feel the events in real-time.

And the truth she came to realize was that she was once in love.

So in love that her heart seemed to tear itself apart at the fact she almost lost him.

She had felt those emotions again.

Were those feelings unrequited? Who was he?

She hated her brain for stopping her from seeing the person's face.
