Zombie High

As the dead started to walk the earth, naturally, people started to pull their children out of school. For a while, many schools shut down. Some schools even closed and became shelters.

However, as the Apocalypse became more tolerable and most Zombies were put into dead zones - or put down - schools opened back up. It seemed as though everything was back to normal. Unless you were one of the unfortunate souls who had first hand in the Zombie experience. Unfortunately for you, nothing would ever be normal again.

I could feel their eyes burning into my soul. Hundreds of teens go to Crowdale County High School, even after the apocalypse had started. I suppose parents were still worried about their children becoming a huge disappointment and being unemployed in the future. Thanks to all of those parents, now all eyes were on me and the stupid flower protruding from the choker around my neck. I take a deep, unnecessary breath as I open my locker. My books were all there.

History, math, English, anatomy, overdue library books, all there. Somehow the sight of them made me feel relieved. I raise my eyes to the brown bag above them. I pull it off the hook in the locker. My heart sinks as I see the word in the back of my locker.

Well, I should say, the letter.

I turn and see everyone around me quickly turn away as whispers echo through the halls. I turn and grab my books, stuffing them into deep in my bag.

I slam the locker. Hiding the spray painted, white letter "Z" from my view. I squeeze my bag to my chest, the uneasiness settling back into my body. I turn and quickly start walking away.

People cleared the way for me, fear clear in their eyes. I remembered when I could barely fight through the crowd of students before - wishing that they would all disappear. But, now I couldn't help but wish that I was being crushed by the forever moving teenagers.

I sit under the football bleachers with a book in my hand as everyone else enjoys P.E. Or, the new Zombie Survival class. I know many would consider this as hiding from the living or being a coward. In fact, I can hear my mother quoting her new boyfriend now.

However, in my defense, I was doing this way before the Zombie Apocalypse even began....which, now that I think about it, is probably why I'm dead. But, there is no need in worrying about it now.

I have never been good at sports or anything that involves moving. Because of that, I have always hidden during gym. I would make sure that the teacher counted my presence and to be there for physical tests that I would have failed anyway. So, instead of torturing myself, I decided to put my time to use and read.

And, as of today, I am probably doing everyone a favor.

I haven't been back here for a full day to make a complete idiot of myself and I feel as though everyone is waiting for me to dig myself a grave. I have never felt so hated before. Plus, to make matters worse, none of my friends even looked at me during class.

I turn my head and watch as my two best friends, Angie and Kylie run on the field. Both seemed as though they were getting along fine. Which, was painful considering that they wouldn't even join the class activities without me. But, now, they were running side by side on the track.

I stand up, kneeling down so I wouldn't hit my head on the metal bleachers. I look at my friends remember how we used to make fun of the people who were like Gods on the field.

I, then, wondered what they would do if I went out there with them.

"Found you!"

I jump in surprise at the loud voice, hitting my head hard. The next thing I knew, I was looking up at the girl from the movies as I lay on the ground. My head pounded as she looked down at me worriedly.
