When i was young
My mom told me that
Every friend i make
Every person i meet
I give a little bit of my heart too
Whether its for 10 seconds
Or ten years
As I grew older
I started giving more and more
Of myself to others
I dated this boy
I gave him a big part of my heart
And when he left
He took it with him
And when my cousin died
He took the biggest part of my heart
And to this day
I wonder
Didn't their mothers tell them to give
An equal piece of their heart
So that when they left
That person wouldn't be empty?
