C H A P T E R 13: LITLLE AUGUSTINE

"AHMMM... can we do it after a few days?" I interrupted the conversation.
Nandito si Mommy at Daddy kasama ang doctor na nagha-handle sa akin sa loob ng kwarto ko, and they are talking about my operation.
Sabi ng doctor ay we should do it as soon as possible, pero I don't think I can agree with that.
Not that na hindi ko gustong mabuhay. I'm just not ready, knowing na 50 percent assurance will me not making it after the said operation.
"Bakit naman, Augustine? Are you thinking about the financial cost of the operation? Don't worry, me and your Mommy already has a way to push it, and remember, gusto kong bumawi sa'yo kaya wala ka nang dapat ipag-alala pa," sabi ni Daddy.
"It's not about the money, Daddy. Alam kong kaya niyo ni Mommy hanapan 'yan ng paraan, pero I'm thinking about my chance of living here. Si doc na mismo nagsabi na there is a possibility of not getting rid of the cancers, kaya... I want to spend more time living now, even just a few days, para if ever I will not survive the surgery, I was given the chance to do something I want before that."
"Pero Augustine, the risk here is that the more time na ipapatagal nating gawin ang operation, the more tataas ang chance na you will not make it, it's better na as soon as possible ay gawin na para mas mataas pa ang possibility of a successful operation, kapag itatagal pa natin, there is a possibility naman na mas lulubha ang cancer sa loob ng katawan mo and would invade your body as much and as fast as we expected," sabi naman ng doctor.
"Just 2 days, doc. I'm asking for 2 days only, I want to spend more time awake sa loob ng dalawang araw, and I want for the last time, I would go out this room, even not go out the hospital but just this room and roam around."
"Agree ba kayo doon, Mr. and Mrs. De Vera?" the doctor looked at Mommy and Daddy.
"Ito ba talaga ang gusto mo, Augustine?" Mommy asked me and I just nod for assurance.
"Sigi doc, we will wait for 2 days before gagawin ang operation."
"Sigi po, if Augustine decided to walk around, make sure na may alalay po siya, and for you, Augustine, make sure you will take care as you go out the room, kapag may nararamdaman kang masama, call one of us, okay?"
"Yes po, doc."
"Sigi, maiwan na muna ko kayo dito, may dapat pa akong asikasuhin sa labas," paalam ng doctor bago tuluyang lumabas ng kwarto.
"Thank you, thank you dahil tinanggap niyo 'yung gusto ko. I promise, I will make up for it."
What is that, Augustine? A promise? Hindi mo nga alam kung mabubuhay ka pa! Screw you.
