Chapter 12: Scissors Of Peace

Everyone was sound asleep, except Aurora. It was already five in the morning, and yet, she couldn't catch a wink of sleep.

Her head was full of thoughts. She tried to figure out where she had done it so wrong.

The moment Aurora heard the main door opening, she shot up from the bed, and without a second thought, got out of the bedroom. As expected, Davian was standing in the living room, glancing at Aurora's door.

He was only standing a few feet apart, and yet, Aurora felt as though he was standing miles away from her, out of her reach.

"I... was about to knock at your door," Davian said to her, his voice trailing off awkwardly.

Not being able to tolerate the distance any longer, Aurora walked up to him and pulled him into a hug. "I'm sorry, Davian. I should've given it a thought before randomly blurting out my feelings."

"Aura..."

She cupped his cheeks. "There is no pressure on you." While tossing and turning in bed, she reflected on all the things she had done wrong. It wasn't just Davian who overreacted; she did too. "Take as much time as you want. Take the entire lifetime. I won't force you to love me."

"Aura—"

"We can go at your pace. There's no problem. Just take it lightly. No rush. I can wait as much as you want. I ju—"

He interrupted her loudly, "Aura, listen to me!"

She became quiet. Davian removed her hands from his face and said, "What I am gonna say will be hard for you. But try to understand me."

"You are scaring me. Are we breaking up? Davian, will you break up with me just because of this?" Aurora's heart leaped in fear.

He let out a deep breath and said, "Aura, I think we should take a break."

"A break? What do you mean by that?" she asked in disbelief.

"I thought about everything and it will be a wise decision if we take a break."

Aurora gave a humorless chuckle. "A break? Which one? Ross and Rachel type or a normal one?"

"Obviously, a normal one," he told her. Then he held her hand in his and continued, "Look, Aura. I just have too many thoughts scattered in my brain, so for now, I need a break from all this. I don't want this to affect either of our performances."

"Is this because of my confession?" She was already on the verge of a breakdown. "I shouldn't have confessed! I should have given it some more thought. If I did that, we wouldn't be here right now."

"No, no. I am glad you confessed, Aura. I thought about some important things about our relationship, which I had been putting off for a while, and this is the best decision after all the analysis."

"What things, Davian? Why don't you share your thoughts and maybe we can work on it together?"

He left her hand. "Let's not talk about this anymore. This is the end of the discussion, okay?"

"Now I cannot even talk about it?" She felt her eyes getting watery. "Fine. You started this and you will end this. I won't ever talk about this anymore. But I want you to know that I will wait for you, Davian."

Davian closed his eyes briefly and then walked into his room without sparing one last glance at her.

Tears started pouring out of Aurora's eyes. She rushed to the balcony of her room and looked at the sun rising.
