Chapter 10: Aurora's Birthday

As the moon rose high in the sky, casting a gentle glow over the garden, Davian stood nervously waiting for Aurora. He had planned this moment with meticulous effort, wanting to make it as special as possible for her. And now that the time had finally come, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. None of his efforts would amount to anything if he didn't get to see Aurora's smile.

Davian heard the anticipated sound of footsteps approaching from behind him. He slowly turned around to see Aurora walking towards him, her hair falling in soft waves around her face, her purple gown flowing gracefully in the breeze. She looked absolutely stunning, and Davian's heart skipped a beat at the sight of her. She never failed to take his breath away.

"Hi," she said softly as she reached Davian.

"You look amazing," was all he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "And happy birthday, Aura."

"Thank you, Davian." She smiled, taking his hand in hers. "So what's all this?" she asked, gesturing towards the garden.

Davian took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. "I wanted to do something special for you," he said. "I know we've been together for a while now, but I never want to stop showing you how much I like you."

"So this is what you have been doing behind my back?"

He nodded. "And Ariel helped me a lot."

Aurora looked at him with a softness in her eyes that made his heart swell. "What did you have in mind?" she asked. She was relieved that Ariel was just helping Davian and she hated her mind for momentarily doubting their closeness. Ariel was her friend!

He led her over to a small table he had set up in the garden, covered in a white tablecloth and adorned with candles and flowers. "I made you dinner," he said, feeling a sense of nervousness creeping up on him.

"Really?" Aurora gasped in surprise. "How did you have the time to cook in this busy schedule?"

"I just went to the hotel's kitchen and said I wanted to make something for you. Perks of being a celebrity, I assume," Davian let out. "The head chef turned out to be our fan as well. She was ecstatic to have me use her kitchen."

"Great! So you didn't talk to me the whole day because you were angry at me for my childish behavior about wanting your attention?" She felt like a fool for arguing with him that day.

He chuckled. "No, not at all. Rather, I was busy making this moment perfect for you." Still, he felt slightly awful for the way he acted with her. "In fact, I am sorry. I got too invested in keeping my surprise a secret that I absolutely didn't want you to find out."

"I am sorry for nagging you so much. Even if you weren't planning a surprise, I should have respected your space, Davian," with that, she pulled him into a hug.

He kissed her head and mumbled, "Hey, it's okay. Now let's eat because I know you didn't have dinner and neither did I."

"Sure."

As they sat down to eat, Davian couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment. The warm glow of the candles, the scent of the flowers, the gentle rustle of the leaves in the breeze—it was all perfect. But most of all, it was the look of love and appreciation in Aurora's eyes that made it all worth it.

While eating, they talked about everything and anything, laughing and joking and just enjoying each other's company. Even if they were silent, it was comfortable like taking a soak in the bathtub after a long tiring day. It felt like the rest of the world didn't exist, and all that mattered was the two of them. Time could cease, and they wouldn't care.

After dinner, Davian led her over to a small gazebo he had set up in the corner of the garden. They sat down on the bench inside, surrounded by soft cushions and the gentle glow of more candles.

"Close your eyes," Davian said softly, taking her hand in his.

She did as he asked, and he reached into my pocket, pulling out a small box. Davian opened it up, revealing a delicate silver necklace, adorned with a single diamond. Knowing she liked things simple, he chose the design to her liking.

"I know it's not much," he said nervously. "But I wanted to give you something to show you how much I like you. To remind you that you are always on my mind and that I'll always be here for you."

She opened her eyes, and he immediately saw the tears shining in them. "It's perfect," she said softly, reaching out to take the necklace from him. "Thank you."

They sat there in silence for a few moments, just basking in the warmth and tenderness of the moment. Finally, Davian leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, feeling her respond eagerly.

He gently placed one of his hands on her waist and the other one behind her head, while her hands rested on his chest, feeling his heart pick up its pace.

As they pulled back to get some oxygen, Davian looked into her eyes and knew that he had found the perfect girl for himself.

As they sat in the gazebo, Davian could feel the energy between them growing stronger. The soft glow of the candles reflected in her eyes, making them sparkle like diamonds. He couldn't stop his heart from racing, his breath catching in his throat.

"Will you dance with me?" he asked her, standing up and offering his hand.

Aurora took it with a smile, and he bowed like a knight and kissed her knuckles, making her chuckle a little in embarrassment. Successful in his attempt to make her blush, he led her out onto the grass. He pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her waist as she put her head on his shoulder. They swayed gently to the music Davian arranged—lost in the moment and in each other.

As they danced, he felt a sense of joy and contentment wash over him. Being with her was like being home—a feeling he had never quite known before meeting her. He couldn't comprehend this emotion, or maybe he was afraid of the answer.

As the night grew darker, Davian took Aurora's hand and led her over to a small pond in the center of the garden. The moonlight danced across the surface of the water, casting shimmering reflections across the grass.

"Make a wish," he said, handing her a small stone.

She closed her eyes and whispered something into the stone before throwing it into the water.

He did the same, and they watched as the ripples spread outwards, carrying their wishes with them.

"We shouldn't stay by the lakeside too long. It's getting a little breezy. We can't afford to catch a cold," Davian said.

At first, Aurora nodded in agreement until she remembered there was something she had to do. So, she chuckled and said, "I had a Japanese friend in middle school who used to say only idiots catch a cold in summer. So, I don't think we have to worry about that. Let's stay out a bit longer."

He laughed. "That sounds bizarre, but okay. I will believe anything to stay out longer with you. I really hope we both don't turn out to be idiots, then. Cillian will have our heads if we fall sick."

"Would our cause of death be cold or Cillian?" she joked.

"That's not even a question. Of course, Cillian."

As they turned to leave in some other direction, Aurora stopped Davian. "Wait," she said, taking his hand. "There's something I want to tell you."

Davian arched an eyebrow. She led him over to a small corner of the garden, where a single tree stood. As they approached, Davian could see that it was covered in tiny lights, casting a warm glow over everything around it.

"I designed this for us so that we can enjoy it here, just sitting down at the base of the tree and looking up at the stars above," she said softly.

He smiled at her as they sat at the base of the tree. Aurora put her head on his shoulder as the couple grew quiet—silently gazing at the stars.

As the night began to wear off, Davian decided to finally ask, "What did you want to tell me, Aura?"

Aurora looked at him. It was hard for her to pour her heart out, but she knew it was now or never. So sucking in a deep breath, she let out, "I love you, Davian."
