Putting a plan so we can get out of the ordeal without anyone getting hurt...

Being happy for a few days...

Realising I loved Nina with all my heart...

And then... Our plans falling in the worst possible way...

Nina betrayed me without a second thought. She didn't trust me to handle the situation...

She even shot me without a blink. She just pulled the trigger with no hesitation...

This time I felt pain in my chest, but I knew that no medicine in the world can alleviate it. The wounds inside my heart would never heal.

The realisation hit me like a ton of bricks, and I sat up abruptly. My sudden actions brought a wave of nausea that hit me so hard I fell back on the bed.

"Whoa! Take it easy." Hunter jumped out of his chair and was by my side in one second.

"Where is Nina?" I was doing my best to breathe through the pain.

Hunter averted his eyes, and I immediately knew something was wrong. "Hunter, look at me and spill the truth." I managed to say through gritted teeth.

"She is safe at one of the warehouses," Hunter said with a cold tone.

When I gave him a look of disbelief, he sighed and tried to reassure me."No one hurt her. We know she is your wife." Hunter said.

"You are not helping," I sighed and pulled out the needle in my arm.

"What the hell are you doing?" Hunter exclaimed.

"I must see Nina." I sat up slowly and looked around the room. I saw a pile of clothes on one of the tables. "Give me those."

"Ethan, you are not okay. You need rest." Hunter shook his head.

I took a deep breath and made sure to emphasise my next words. "Repeating my words twice just makes me tired, Hunter. It is either you help me or you can sit idly and let me be."

He nodded his head and assisted me to change into clean jeans and a white t-shirt. Hunter crouched next to me and tied my shoes.

"Thank you," I said with a smile when he rose back up.

"Are you sure you want to do this? Dad is on his way, and he won't be happy if he doesn't find you here resting as you should." Hunter pleaded.

"I need to see Nina. It is urgent." I noticed how his blue eyes hardened, and he didn't say a word while helping me out of bed. "Look Hunter, I know what she did is unforgivable, but she is my wife, and I must protect her."

"No one is allowed to hurt my family. As much as I am concerned, she doesn't mean anything to me. And if at any time she loses your name and protection, her life will be mine. You are my only alive sibling, and she nearly took you away from me. In my books, her treason is punished by death,"

The fierceness in his voice scared me because I knew he was speaking the truth. Hunter resembled Dad in a lot of aspects, they both don't forgive and seek revenge. They could hold grudges for years and have the patience to wait for the right moment to pounce on their prey.

His words affirmed that I must keep Nina, my wife, even though I wasn't sure anymore about my feelings for her.

I just nodded my head and grasped Hunter's offered arm. We walked to the parking lot and got inside Hunter's car. Hunter's slow driving was grating my nerves.

"Since when did you start driving that slow?" I snapped.

Hunter looked at me and muttered something under his breath.
