A Girl Named Zero: Camp Coven

Chapter Five

We all had strange dreams that night, well except for Bonnie. Bonnie doesn't sleep, she sleeps while Sarah is awake and vice versa. Instead, she sat by the fire and went into a trance. Channelling her powerful night magic to strengthen her body and my own. It helped me to gather my magic back up and by morning I felt completely healed. The night before I'd made us each pyjama's to sleep in. Bonnie didn't sleep so instead requested a black tuning fork to help with her spell work.
I could see the sunlight through the wall of the tent as the sun began to rise. Leah's arm was over my body. She'd fallen asleep spooning me. I smiled as I enjoyed the feeling of her warm body against my own. Then I noticed writing on her hand. I couldn't seem to read it though. I didn't remember her writing anything on her hand. I only then realised I had writing on my own hand. "Today is the final day of the first activity. Zero, your personal goal today is to enhance the magic of each member of your group" it read. I couldn't help but wonder if we each had a goal to reach that was personal to each of our powers. I felt Leah stir behind me and rolled over to see her face close to mine. Her eyes were open and I was looking into the beautiful shade of hazel. "Good morning beautiful," she said to me softly. I smiled "good morning" I told her. We leaned toward one another and kissed. It felt like fireworks were exploding all around us. Whatever this was with Leah felt like the most real kind of magic I'd ever experienced. "What's that on your hand?" She asked looking at it. I moved it so she could read it. "It's blurry" she told me. I'd figured as much. The goals were personal and obviously the witches that ran the camp didn't want us to share them with certain people. "You have one too" I told her lifting her hand to show her. It was blurry upon closer examination but she was able to read it. She read hers aloud "this is the last day of the first activity, Leah your goal for today is to admit your feelings to your group". She looked at mine. "What did yours say?" She asked me. "Pretty much the same except instead they want me to enhance the powers of you and the others" I explained to her. "I've never heard of that kind of magic before" she admitted. "The high council told me that I can "create anything, enhance anything, destroy anything and even bring the dead back to life. That's how they summed my powers up to me" I admitted to her, I was feeling like I could open up to Leah. Is that blind love? Or is what we have that special? I couldn't help but wonder to myself. "I'm surprised they let you go" she told me biting her bottom lip. "Well they only let me go if I had a hero with me at all times but when we were sent here he was separated from me" I admitted  "Wow a real hero. What's he like?" She asked me. "Michalo is kind of a stick in the mud but he's super experienced and he's supposedly way stronger than the average hero" I told her. "I guess I'll be meeting him tonight then" she said. "Speaking of, we should probably get up. I'm curious as to what the mystery behind this rock is and today's our last day to find out" I said standing up, turning around and changing into my cloak. When I was done I turned around and she was halfway through changing. Except she was facing me. I turned back around immediately feeling embarrassed that I'd seen her half naked. I heard her laugh before saying "it's okay Zero, I'm not uncomfortable with other witches seeing me nude. My family practices full moon magic saturation. It's more embarassing seeing my great aunts naked trust me" she said attempting to comfort me. Magic saturation ceremonies happen during certain events. They supposedly enhance your magic as long as you are completely naked with a group of like-minded witches. It's not sexual at all. Usually, all it is is a bunch of witches dancing nude in the moonlight but there have been cases of necromancers doing so in a graveyard and even some extremist witches that murder virgins and dance covered in their blood. I pictured Leah's family as doing one of the regular moonlight ceremonies as opposed to killing virgins and dancing in blood.
When we exited the tent we could see Sarah preparing some stew for breakfast. "Good morning my fellow Omega's" she said, she had obviously noticed the badge. "Thanks for helping Bonnie feel included. Most people assume she's a dark witch because of her attitude and her powers. She's just a nice girl that wants friends that accept her for her" Sarah explained. "No problem Sarah, she's a pretty cool witch. She even helped heal my body while I slept last night" I told her. "So are we a coven now? The five of us?" Sarah asked. "I couldn't ask for a better coven" Heather said coming out of her tent. "Did the rest of you get one of these?" Heather asked showing her hand with the writing on it. "Yep, but you can only read your own one. It comes up blurry for everyone else" Leah explained. Heather came over to the fire where we were all sitting now. "So mine says I have to make a golem out of a special rock and that I'll know it when I see it" Heather explained. "I may as well do my one now" Leah said. I blushed knowing what she meant. "Oh my God! We know you two are together! There's been chemistry there since you two first met" Heather exclaimed. I felt myself go beet red but Leah ignored her and spoke anyway "yes we're a couple but my goal was to share my feelings and I feel like both you and Sarah and even Bonnie are like sisters to me already," she said to Heather. "Hey ditto Leah" Heather said back smiling. Sarah poured the stew into some bowls and passed Leah hers first. "I feel a close bond as well," she told her. "What was your Sarah?" I asked her. She passed me my bowl of stew next and said "to allow myself to be part of this group. I thought a good place to start was to show my appreciation by making you all breakfast" she told us. "What about you Zero? Yours must be pretty epic knowing your powers" Heather asked me just as Sarah gave Heather her bowl and sat beside her with her own bowl of stew. I looked at the writing on my hand. "They want me to give you all a power boost" I told the group. Heather nearly dropped her bowl. "Mending magic is one thing but making another witch's magic even more powerful should be physically impossible!" She exclaimed.  "If anyone can do it, Zero can," Sarah said having faith in me. "I agree" Leah voiced. "Are you even okay to use your magic today? You looked pretty drained last night" Heather asked me concerned. "Bonnie healed my body and magic reserves last night. So I'm fairly certain I'm good today" I told Heather. "That explains this then" Sarah said showing her other hand. It also had writing on it. "It was blurry to me but I guess to Bonnie it told her to heal you" Sarah explained. "So all five of us received a goal" Leah pointed out.
After breakfast we packed our gear up and set out for the rock. "How does one enhance another witch?" Sarah asked as we trekked through the bush. "I honestly have no idea. I'm hoping something comes to me by the end of the day. Otherwise, I'll fail my goal" I told her feeling the pressure.
We reached the bottom of the rock by mid-morning and by the middle of the day we reached the summit. We came around the bend to see a boulder that seemed different to the other parts of the formation. "Guys this rock has some serious power coming off of it" Leah said hovering her hand above it. The other girls seemed to fear the rock. I didn't feel anything toward it though. In fact it was like it was beckoning me forward. Beckoning me to touch it. The others backed away. "It's unnatural. Like it's cursed" Hearher said attempting to use her magic on it to no avail. I was trying to stop myself but I couldn't. I just kept stepping closer to it. Like I was magnetised by it. Leah went to grab me but it was too late. My hand touched the unnatural boulder. Instantly my head filled with information and then I was back. Somehow I was laying on the ground and my body was aching. "What happened?" I asked the girls as they were leaning down and helping me to my feet. "It's like it possessed you" Sarah said looking frightened by whatever just happened. "You touched it and then both you and the rock floated at least six feet in the air. Your eyes went pure white and the boulder shrank to that" Leah said pointing at the now shrivelled and much smaller rock "then you fell but Leah managed to catch you in a bush she quickly grew" Heather said. "How do you feel?" Leah asked and they all looked at me with both worry and curiosity. "It was a fragment of the meteorite. It was like it was a living being and needed to share what it knew before dying" I told them. "It's just a space rock now" Sarah said touching it herself. "It's freezing cold" she told us. Heather walked over to it and touched it herself. "This is it, this is the golem I need to make" she said before putting her hands up to make it. She struggled and so I stood beside her and held her hand. I channelled my own magic into her and she was instantly energised. "Woah this power is incredible" she said lifting her other hand and turning the space rock into a golem successfully. Leah took my other hand and Sarah clasped a hand on my shoulder. My magic flowed into the both of them as well. They both out a hand out in front of them toward the golem and it grew in size. It was at least five feet tall now and unlike other golems, it had facial features. The other girls each let go of me and we all walked toward the golem. "Thank you" It said to us. Its voice raspy. "You've brought back a long-dead species in my revival. I'll forever be in your debt" it told us all before going to one knee. "I'd be honoured if you called me your familiar," it told us. We each looked at one another. It was common knowledge amongst witches that in order to make a contract with a familiar you first had to name it. It was like the four of us were of one mind and in there I could even feel Bonnie giving her approval. In synchronisation, we told it "your name is Boulder".
