Basen, Lily, his father, and even his stepmother were far too precious to be insulted by such a disgusting monster.
(Cale could feel the righteous anger yet his weak self wasn't able to defend them or even save them.
He became Roksoo, gaining the strength to defend and protect what was important to him. He will not make the same mistake twice.)
Not for the first time, Roksoo was glad that he chose to give up his past. He gave up the identity of Cale Henituse and all the burdens it contained. It was a coward's move. Roksoo knows this quite well. Yet, it wasn't like he never tried to help and make the world a better place. His 'power' was just not enough and the world was already fucked up long before he pulled himself together enough to join the fray.
Roksoo also knows that even if he just chose to go back to the past, attempting to solve the situation himself by living his life once more, he wouldn't be able to achieve such results.
He isn't dumb nor stupid, but he could never even dream of having the tactical understanding and sharp mind of Cale. Maybe that's a lie and he could have somehow winged it with the knowledge of the future that he got.
The thing is...Roksoo didn't want to relive the past.
(He was tired. Bone deep tired. )
The future would have never let him go, always reminding him of the things to come and the struggles he faced. Dead faces would have replaced the living ones during a conversation. Buildings and memories may even end up scrambled and he could have remembered some information wrong, dooming them in the process. He never paid any attention to the events before the Indomitable Alliance attacked. His father and the other nobles never informed him of the details, something Roksoo agreed with as his past reputation didn't paint a reliable picture.
Only after he was the last one left of his family did he gain access to confidential information as the newly crowned Count Henituse. The world went to hell a while before that and he focused more on surviving- revenge, pain, suffering- than skimming through past notes.
How could he stop something that he had no details of?
Just go to the crown prince and be like 'hey, nice to meet you. I know I'm trash but I am also a fortune teller. New occupation and all, but really, dear prince, you need to arm up. The north will attack with the support of a wannabe god and his literal armies, and while I have no proof and also no reputation, I am telling the truth. Please believe in me, a well-known trash, and we can save the kingdom together!'.
Yeah, that would go well.
Kim Roksoo finally calmed down enough to accept the offered handkerchief from Cale, who held it out to him with a stoic expression. No comment followed. Roksoo saw the glint in Cale's eyes, the redhead probably understands him more than both like to admit. Wiping his eyes and cheeks, Roksoo grimaced. His cheeks hurt like hell.
A shadow fell over both of them. It got quickly identified as Choi Han, who probably couldn't bear the distance from Cale anymore or for some other weird reason. The swordmaster slipped into the booth, claiming a place right next to Cale. Luckily, Choi Han chose Cale's other side because right now, Roksoo would fight him for his place next to the calm redhead.
That is probably also another reason why he would never be successful if he tried to change the past.
Kim Roksoo is human. A faulty human, but human nonetheless.
The past grudge he had against Choi Han is still burning brightly and a small part of him admits that Roksoo is petty enough to never let it go. He would never be able to work with Choi Han without attempting to verbally destroy the swordmaster, gaining a beating or two in return.
