Alpha Lily Reaper

"It's all been a ploy. He isn't your son, he isn't my brother. He is at most a distant cousin. He shares blood but not with you, with mom and me." I explained.

I couldn't help but feel a hint of regret as I looked at my father. He looked helpless, lost and confused. You didn't need to be emotionally intelligent to tell that the man was in pain. It didn't matter which way you looked at it, the betrayal my father experienced was overwhelming. The woman whom he shared his life with after his mate was nothing but a traitor. I knew that he would be feeling ashamed about this happening under his nose. I would feel the same if I was in his shoes. The information shared was overwhelming.

Even for me, it was difficult to comprehend that the woman I had been calling mother for the few decades wasn't even really my mother. A part of me is annoyed that I didn't know she was my mother. I almost feel deprived that I never got the chance to know about her. I can't help but wonder what she was like.

"What do you mean that he isn't related to me but to you?" My father sagged in the Alpha's chair.

"Well you confirmed that mo- Lisa isn't my biological mother? Well in order for you two to remain as mates for as long as you have, there must be some blood ties. Plus Lisa shares similarities with me and Reed." I replied.

"Yes, she's your mother's cousin." My father sighed heavily with a nod of the head.

As much as I didn't want to be right, I was glad that me and Layla had managed to find a new trail to follow. I never suspected that Lisa wasn't my biological mother. I don't know what her role in all this is but she never once mistreated me or my brother. She seemed to love us a lot. I can't understand why she is involved with all this. I can't even comprehend how our family was entangled with this mess. So far, all the evidence indicates that this was a planned attack.

"Could you explain to how you came to mate with Lisa and what actually happened to our mother?" I gestured with my hand for him to continue.

"Your mother got sick when she was pregnant with you and your brother." My father clenched his eyes shut. "I can't tell you with what, but she was extremely sick. The doctors said it was the pregnancy and that it was making her weak. Your mother's cousin Lisa came to the pack when she heard the news. She cared for your mother and looked after her when I was busy with the pack."

"When your mother died, I disappeared for a week. My wolf lost control. We were broken. I was considering giving up my title when I went to the hospital and saw you and your brother curled around each other in the cot. It was then that my broken heart seemed to beat again. It was you who reached out your tiny little hand and grasped my finger." My father's eyes welled with tears as he seemed lost in the memory.

"It was then that I had hope and was thankful that I had something to live for. Lisa cared for both you while I disappeared and it was during those early years of yours that we bonded. She told me her mate had died and that I was lucky to have something of my mate left. Our relationship at first was more for connivence, to offer you a mother and the pack a Luna. But as the years grew, our relationship and companionship developed. Both of us never spoke of your mother because we missed her dearly and both of you had recognised her as your mother. The pack respected our decision and never spoke of it." He finished.

"What was my mother's name?" I asked.

"Lucy."

There was a deafening silence between the three of us. I could sense that Leyla had her own questions and thoughts as she twiddled her fingers, but she was mindful over what she said. I could sense that she didn't quite trust my father and I couldn't blame her. My father's abandonment had affected me still to this day. I can't help but shake my head as I think about the lives that have been ruined by the order. The thing that pained my heart the most was that the woman who I called mother, seemed to be a part of it.

"Have you ever had any suspicions regarding Lisa?" I questioned.

"No." He shook his head. "There was nothing wrong with how she acted in the pack, she was a good Luna from what I saw. But then again, it looks like I didn't see everything." He said as he placed his head in hands hopelessly.

"What about my bro -? I don't know what to call him at the moment." I shook my head. "What is Lucas like as an Alpha?"

"He tries his hardest. He listens to his pack, he isn't a bad Alph-" My father begins to prattle.

I hold my hand up for him to stop. "I am not asking you for your politically answer. I am asking you honestly what has been been like as an Alpha?" I question firmly.

He lets out a long exhale of breath. "He lacks the skills of an Alpha. I thought it was because Reed was out there somewhere alive. I thought the Alpha command would come at some point. I never expected it was because he wasn't my son and didn't have the gene."

"Did Lisa ever tell you the name of her mate or what happened to him?" Layla asked.

"No. She said it was always to painful to talk about, that her wolf was pyschologically damaged because of the death of her mate. She said her wolf was weak and she had never recovered. She explained that talking about it only caused her wolf pain. She only mentioned that he was no longer alive." My father replied.

Leyla's eyes catch mine and both of us seem to be having the same thought process. It's a simple thought but one that will lead us to next lot of gingerbread crumbs.

"What are you both thinking?" My father responds as his head bobs between the two of us.

"Well if Lucas is not your son. Then who's son is he?" Leyla interjects.

"Her mate. He is the son of her mate, who is quite possibly still alive." I finish.
