Giovanni Liotti

I fell back, against the couch, and sighed brushing my hands over my face. When I heard the front door close, I jumped right off the couch, remembering that I drove the both of us here. She didn't have a ride home, and it was raining outside. I ran through my house, and ripped the door open, hoping that she was waiting for me at the porch. But as expected, she was gone. I saw Angelo walking towards me, with an umbrella in his hands.

"Don't worry about her." He closed the umbrella when he was under the porch. "I saw her, and told one of the drivers to get her home." We walked inside of the house, closing the door, but I heard a knock on the door. I opened it, and it was Chris. I let him in.

"Did you tell her?" He asked.

"I did." I nodded, as we walked to the bar I had in this house.

"How did it go?" Chris asked.

"She looked pissed and sad and anxious when I saw her." Angelo said.

"Well, I mean, it could have gone worse." I sighed, serving myself a glass of bourbon. "Before I told her, I explained that the way I was going to see her now that she knows won't change, and then I dropped the bomb. At the beginning she was in a bit of denial." I took a sip of the bourbon. "But then I explained everything, and it was as if everything was puzzled in her head." I shook my head, downing the glass entirely. "She told me, she had to think about everything that I told her, as it was too much." I sat down on the black couches I had there. "She said she would call me." I grabbed another glass of bourbon.

"Just relax." Angelo said. "I'm sure she will call you back." He assured me. "She just needs time to process everything, and as she said, you both will talk about it after."

"Yeah, don't worry man." Chris said, sitting down on one of the individual couches. "She is not the type of person to go against her word. When she says she is going to do something she will do it." He said, while pouring himself another drink as well. "Well, most of the time." He mumbled.

"Yeah, I know that," I nodded. "But I'm, just..." I hadn't felt this kind of feeling in a very long time. I was taught how to hide them, as they showed your weakness.

"Scared?" Angelo said.

"Yeah," I nodded.

"Just keep your mind clear for the next few days, don't do anything irrational." He said. "Meaning, don't sleep with other women." He pointed at me. I rolled my eyes.

"Chris, you and I know I'm just one woman man." I sighed. "And even though that, and that I dispiece cheating, she has me trapped between her little fingers." I grumbled.

"It's true," Angelo nodded, as Chris did as well. "You are a total suck up for that woman." He laughed. "I would go as far as to say that you would kneel for her." He laughed, looking at me. If she asked me, I wouldn't have any doubts. "But that is actually not a bad thing." He nudged me, as he walked to get himself another drink. "Just relax, because you know in a few days you will have tons of shit to do."

......

It had been days since I last talked with Marina. It had been painfully silent between us. We would talk to each other regularly, even when I had the mission thing to do, I would always find a minute or two to just hear her voice. And after that we would chat. Every night I had the urge to call her, and check on her. To make sure she had been sleeping well. If she had been eating. Even though I had been anxious ever since, and waiting for her to call me, I waited for her name to appear on the screen of my phone.

I had sent several shipments of food, and my assistants, who were the ones who I sent, told me that she looked good, but she looked tired, and she was as if she was in another world. I had been spending the last two days with Angelo in my office, doing a lot of paperwork that had to be done because of the Russians. But right then, we were just resting, as in a bit I would have to continue with paperwork from the hotels, while he continued with his things, which basically was trying to get in the Russian's database. The new one, as he discovered, the Russians hired new technicians to create a stronger base.
