Chapter 37-One Step Forward

Isabella's POV
the entire night passes by in a blur as I desperately try to avoid every single person, my eyes searching for only him

My heart starts to ache when i realize he might've left- i mean if i was him, after seeing myself in that situation I would've left too

And why would he not leave? He may have come to save me and then all that happened, he looked like he hadn't slept in days, he must've been trying so hard to find me

The feeling of guilt takes over my heart and i find myself welling up. I started to feel suffocated among this crowd of people I don't even know and take off to running

I run back into the house that is lit with dim candles only

Without looking ahead, i sprint off to wherever i see space and somehow end up in front of my room

I open the door to the room, get in and close it behind me right when a tear escapes my eye

It doesn't take me long enough to fully start crying and five minutes later, i find myself curled up on the ground hugging my knees, crying uncontrollably

There's so much in my heart but the only thing that hurts me is the hurt that portrayed in his eyes

The image of him flashes in my mind repeatedly giving me an unsaid torture

"Take it off" his phrase echoes in the side of my brain and i stop crying for a second

I get so lost in my thoughts that no tear comes out of my eye

"Crying won't solve it" i hear someone speak and immediately go alert mode

I quickly stand up and press my back against the door as i try to figure out the silhouette in the corner beside the window

"Who are you" i ask a little hesitantly but my voice comes out a lot more confident

Even in this situation, my heart feels at peace and the familiar feelings surrounds me

"Nicholas" i whisper and the figure steps out of the dark.

His green eyes shine brighter than ever and I couldn't be happier to get lost in them

I run to him and bury my head in his chest as i sob

He places a hand on the back of my head softly patting me

"I thought you were never gonna come" i say sobbing and he pulls me a little backwards to face him

"Why would you think so" he asks me worriedly and i look at him, his eyes comforted me in a way that no words could

"You inherited the company, i thought you no longer needed me" i said pouting and he pulled me firmly to his chest

"I will always need you" he said softly placing his head above mine, wrapping his hands around me

After a few minutes of happy reunion, Nicholas quickly pulls back as he adjusts something in his ear

"We have to go" he says grabbing my hand

"What? Now?" I say and he gestures me to be quiet

"where do you go to end up in the garden?" He asks me and I quickly recall the tour Cole gave me today

"Right is his study, so left" i say and Nicholas looks at me

"Lets go then" he firmly grips my hand in his and opens the door slowly

I peek out of the door and look around into the dark, silent hallway. As empty as it is, it sends chill down my spines

I gulp as i gesture Nicholas to come out

We tiptoe our way out of the mansion until we end up in the back of the garden

The music bursts loud on the other side, and i take one last look behind me

No one even noticed me gone- i think as i look at the party

"I'm going to be back" i say as Nicholas helps me through the wall

I get down on the other side and as soon as my feet touches the ground, We take off to running

We hear people behind us so we increase our speed

Without looking behind, we run to a car and get inside.

The car speeds off onto the empty road as soon as the door closes and i catch my breath

I feel myself snuggled against Nicholas who has his one hand around my head and the other on my side

His heavy breathing sends goosebumps all over my body, and an unspoken desire erupts between us as we find ourselves mad close, our lips inches apart

what is up with my heart- i think as i sense it beating wildly inside my chest

We stay like that for a few seconds before we hear a familiar voice from the front seat

"That was close" Carlos's voice makes all sorts of emotion come rushing down to me and i realize I've finally escaped the nightmare

"I missed you Isabella" Carlos says turning around and i smile at him

"You've no idea how much i missed everyone of you" i say and he laughs

"what even happened" He asks and i tell them everything in detail as we drive to the airport

My story reaches to almost an end by the time we reach the airport and Nicholas helps me get off the car

I find myself walking towards a private plane and an excitement rushes over me

An air hostess get us on the plane and helps us settle down

I stare at my surroundings stunned as i take in the fact that i am in a private plane

"You're comfortable?" Nicholas asks from beside me and i nod to him

He holds my gaze for a second before smiling and then turning away

"We'll fly soon, please buckle up" the air hostess announces and i buckle up my belt

I pull the belt from the side a little but it seems to get stuck in the seat. I try a few more times when i realize it might break if i do it more

I bite my lower lip in response as i look around to everyone who's busy buckling themselves up

"Let me help you" i hear his familiar voice and turn to look at him

His face leans across mine as his hand goes by my side and in one swift motion, he buckles my belt efficiently

He leans back halfway and turns to look at me, the same feeling, the same emotion from before returns back to me as i find myself getting attracted to him

His green eyes seem to capture me in a magnetic hold and i blink a few times. Our breathings get frequent as we stare at each other, our eyes darting to each other's lips

Our moment gets interrupted by the announcement of take off, Nicholas quickly pulls back clearing his throat and my heart once again hurts with the feeling of disappointment

"I will be back one last time Cole" i say looking out of the window as the Island beneath us grows smaller and smaller
