INSIDE THE CAVE WAS PRACTICALLY THE ABYSS, nothing could be seen, not even my own hands in front of my face, but I felt Clem’s fingers still intertwined with my own. I squeezed them, hearing her let out a sigh of relief in the cold of the cavern, AJ and Tenn’s breathing being heard as well. Outside, the groans of walkers echoed towards us, not too close, but they were getting steadily louder and more uncomfortable to listen to.
Emma: Okay, we should be fine… for now. Shit. Can anyone else see anything?
Clementine: Nope. Absolutely nothing.
AJ: This sucks. This really fucking sucks.
Emma: We’ve just got to figure something out. Keep close together. We don’t want anyone getting lost.
Even though I couldn’t see anything and nobody spoke, I knew everybody understood and so, I started to look around with the help of my hands in front of me. Some people would say this was reckless behavior, wandering around in the dark, not knowing what could be in front of me. Maybe a walker would be stuck in between some rocks, just waiting to take a bite out of my awkwardly, outstretched hand. Maybe there’ll be a drop in the cavern, a drop I couldn’t survive, a drop that would kill me on impact. But to someone like me, someone who had only hours to live with poison flowing through their veins, it wasn’t that important. What I needed to focus on now was getting the others back to the school safely before I was gone. I needed them to be safe.
