"So what do we have?"

"Literally nothing," Lanre asked me from where he was sitting, "we don't have anything other than the video that's not even establishing. We don't even know what is what or who is who right now."

"I mean, when I signed up to be a campus journalist, I didn't sign up to be covering crimes that are grievous enough to be political crimes," Tolu, another pressman added and I had to resist the urge to roll my eyes. Typical of these people to always find a joke in everything and even in this the direst of situations I've ever encountered as a campus journalist.

"Can we please focus on the issue at hand?" I asked, "we have so much to cover and the students are going crazy and they're spreading all sorts of ridiculous rumors."

"Yeah, it's actually kind of barbaric right now," Chuks added, "the video broke out like 45 minutes ago and it's already trending on Twitter, and students and others are claiming that it has to be some sort of clash between two rival cult members. Like, that's unfathomable, for starters, I think it's an established fact that we don't even have cult groups in CSA."

A pressman I recognized to be Habeeb chuckled from the other side of the table, "it can't be an established fact just because we don't have evidence that backs that claim up. For all we know, they might be keeping their activities under the wrap and this just escalated more than they thought it would and that's even by the way but I'm not sure it's possible for a tertiary institution to exist without having cult groups."

"So you think that thing in the video was done by cult members?"

"That video was barbaric, Chucks, do we need to rewatch it?" he gestured to the whiteboard that we often project videos and pictures to, "for you to really understand the extremities of what happened there? That doesn't look like something that can be done by someone normal, someone that's actually an average student that goes to classes with us, and is living a normal life as a student which leaves us with either a psychopath on the loose or a deranged cult member."

"Or a bitter loser that got carried away," Amirah added from where she was sitting and I exhaled out of sheer frustration.

It was almost midnight and we were holed up in the CovenView conference room trying to get to the bottom of what happened but even though we'd been here for more than 30 minutes since Tania saw the video and Eniola called me, we haven't gotten anything.

Except for that tiny winy but important fact.

"Guys, we're not here to talk about useless conspiracy theories that won't get us anywhere closer to unraveling what happened. I just got off the call with the subdean before I got here and he wants an article out as soon as possible, at least to quench all the ridiculous rumors that are already going around so what do we have now?"

"Apart from the fact that Seyi Anifowose was brutally attacked by God knows who and he is in a critical condition and barely unconscious right now?" Amirah asked a rhetorical question, "well no, Presido. The pressmen in the hospital he was rushed to have not gotten back to us with any tangible information. As of five minutes ago, he was still unconscious and the results of the tests they ran on him are still not out."
