(Next day, at the Miyazaki Estate)

Right after the moment Ayato had walked out and announced your marriage to him, everything had been a blur. Thoma's congratulations were lost in the cheers of the guards and townspeople as they clapped for the two of you. You could only hope that tomorrow would give you a bit of peace.

But it gave you the exact opposite. Your soul was close to leaving your body from all the exhaustion after dealing with your mother's gushing praises and the maid's gossip as you tried to do your work.

"This is just wonderful!" your mother laughed as she strode into your room for the third time that day. "I knew you wouldn't disappoint me," she said, squeezing you in a tight hug. "The Miyazaki bloodline can finally continue....and the Kamisato bloodline as well," she beamed, her face lighting up at the thought of it.

"Mother!" you exclaimed, quickly standing up from your desk. "It's a bit too early for that, don't you think? I still have lots of business to attend to before that," you blurted. You knew this whole engagement was fake yet you still felt your cheeks turning warm.

"Don't be silly," she gushed. "There's no time for work now! You're getting engaged today!"

Your jaw dropped as you stared at your mother. "Today?? But-"

"The head of the Kamisato Estate personally requested it," she interrupted, barely able to contain her excitement. "And of course, I agreed right away."

Before you could utter a word in response, your mother snapped her fingers and you gulped as you watched the maids flood in, ready to transform you.

5 hours later, you stood in front of the Kamisato Estate for the second time that week. However this time, the grand place was full of nobles from all over Inazuma as they flooded in through the gates.

Dressed in an elegant blue dress and covered in more jewelry than you had ever worn before, you watched the guests happily chatting away, sampling snacks that had been set out. As soon as they noticed you, the nobles rushed forward and started complimenting you from all directions.

Despite the cheerful environment, you couldn't help but feel anxious. The crowd overwhelmed you and you were barely paying attention to the words that came out of their mouths.

These were the same people that had constantly tried to crush the Miyazaki Estate without a single bit of remorse after you had just become the head. You knew their stretched-out smiles were just a mask for their true corrupt souls. They were either here to boost their social standing, ask for favors, or both.

Starting to feel sick, you sighed in relief as you saw Thoma waving at you from the back of the crowd. "Finally, a familiar face," you whispered, making your way over to him. Tripping over your dress as you pushed through the horde of people, you only managed to relax after shutting the doors to the Yashiro Commission headquarters behind you.

"You look great!" Thoma smiled, helping you regain your composure. "Thanks," you replied, still shaken by what just happened.

"Are you okay? Do you need anything?" he asked, worry evident in his voice. "I just...need a moment," you said, smiling at him. He was one of the few good friends you had.

Taking a deep breath, you calmed your nerves. All the subtle judging stares of the nobles were something you had become familiar with over the years, it was no different this time.

"Are you sure...?", Thoma asked, glancing at you. "I'll be fine....don't worry," you assured him. Pushing the doors open, you stepped out to face the public once again, this time with unwavering resolve and confidence in every step.

30 very exhausting minutes later, you leaned against one of the 4 cream-colored walls surrounding the estate. After numerous greetings and congratulations, the people had finally calmed down.

You were confused. This was your engagement party, yet your groom was nowhere to be found. You hadn't seen Ayato once ever since you came, and you weren't able to ask Thoma about it because he was preoccupied with the guests.

Your mother seemed to be having the time of her life talking to the others, but it was the complete opposite for you. Scrunching your eyes closed, you placed a hand on the wall beside you in an attempt to steady yourself. This wasn't good. As the head of the Miyazaki Estate and future "wife" of the Yashiro Commissioner, cowering away from your problems was unacceptable.

Taking a deep breath, you adjusted your dress and stood up straight. Just as you were about to make your way back to the main party, you felt a strong grip on your arm and were pulled aside.

"What the-" you mumbled, puzzled at what just happened. You felt a taller presence standing directly behind you, and looked down to see a pair of arms holding you from behind.

Bewildered, you turned and looked up to see a familiar pair of kind azure eyes looking meeting your eyes.

"Ayato? Wha-" you blurted out in disbelief, but were cut off as Ayato placed his hand over your mouth, motioning for you to be quiet.

"Where were you?" you whispered, confusion written all over your face. "I was looking for you,"

"I was just...observing the party from a distance," he replied, looking around to see if anyone had noticed the two of you.

"How can the groom not be there at his own engagement party..." you trailed off, forcing him to look at you as you stepped in front of him.

"I find small talk unnecessary and rather annoying," he replied curtly, exhaustion evident in his eyes as he looked at you. "It's all a game of figuring out people's true intentions, just one big hassle, really,"

At this, you couldn't help but let out a small laugh, which received an intrigued look from Ayato.

"I never thought the great Yashiro Commissioner would have such feelings towards the public," you said, raising an eyebrow.

"On the contrary, I love the public. It's the greed-driven nobles that never know when to stop being foolish," he replied, crossing his arms.

"Putting up with their facades is always draining", you laughed bitterly, your own experiences with Inazuma's high society always leaving you irritated afterward.

Chuckling, Ayato turned to look at you with a smile playing across his lips. At that moment you couldn't help but admire the sheer beauty of his eyes as they gazed at you.

Staring at him longer than you should have, you quickly looked away but could still feel your cheeks growing warm.

"We should get back to the guests," you said quickly, feeling worn out at just the thought of facing nobility and their drama once again.

"Is something wrong?",  Ayato asked. You looked back up to see him much closer to you, slight worry present in his words.
