CHAPTER SIXTEEN

STEVE

Tanaw na tanaw ko mula rito sa kinatatayuan ko mula sa labas ang mahimbing na natutulog na si Selene.

My fist was clenched tightly.

Kung hindi pa kita hinanap Selene, maabutan pa kaya kitang buhay? I can't help but to blame myself. I failed as her bodyguard. I wasn't there to protect her when she needed help.

Iniisip ko pa lang ang luhaang mukha ni Selene habang nagmamakaawang wag saktan at gawin ang hindi niya gusto. Nagdidilim ang paningin ko.

Her tears are the most hurtful sight to see. While looking at her bruises, I can tell that she suffered a lot from those bastards.

Selene's almost lifeless body still lingered in my mind until now. I can't forget how pale she was. I thought she was dead at that time. She lost too much blood. Buti na lang nadala ko agad siya sa hospital.

"Are you in love with her?" napalingon ako sa gilid ko nang biglang may nagsalita.

A sophisticated blue-eyed girl wearing a white coat with both hands in the pockets appeared in front of me. She's looking at me with a wicked smirk. 

My brows furrowed. "Who are you?" I asked, emotionless.

Her one eyebrow rose up and she looked at me with an amused look. "You fucking don't know me?" she asked.

My eyes narrowed at her. "You are not that important para kilalanin kita," I replied, coldly.

She faked a gasp and dramatically touched her chest as if she was hurt because of what I just said.

I can say that this girl is not an ordinary doctor. There's something in her aura that can intimidate you, but not me. 

"You remind me of your friend, Sirius," she said unexpectedly, and I fixed my gaze on her.

Her playful smile faded and was replaced by a frigid one.

She knows Sirius? Who's she really?

Out of nowhere, she extended her hands. "My name is Alyssa Iris Vargas," she said.

Napatitig ako sa nakalahad nitong kamay. Vargas. Hmmmm. Slowly, the side of my lips rose up.

"Steve Romanov, Selene's bodyguard. I heard a lot about your father," sabi ko sabay tanggap ng kamay nito.

"Ay, bodyguard lang? Weak mo naman," she bluntly said.

"Pardon?"

She smirked as she tilted her head. "Torpe na nga, bingi pa. My sassy." Walang prenong sabi nito. Nalaglag ang panga ko sa sinabi nito. 

"What the fuck?" mura ko. Alyssa simply laughed at my reply.

Tumingin ito sa loob ng kwarto. "I pity that lady, naka asawa ng gago," she mumbled. Her eyes softened as she looked at Selene. "Mga tanginang lalaki talaga, ang hilig manakit," nakakuyom na mga kamay na sambit nito. Kahit nakatagilid 'to ay kita ko ang galit sa mga mata nito. Parang may iba pang kahulugan ang sinabi nito. Bakit ganun na lang ang galit niya? 

Hindi ko mabasa kung ano ang nasa isip niya ngayon. Puno ng lamig ang asul nitong mga mata. Wala akong masyadong alam tungkol sa mga Vargas. Simula nang mamatay ang asawa ni Lucien Vargas, naging pribado ang kanilang buhay. Ang tanging alam ko ay may tatlo 'tong anak na babae, triplets.

I stayed silent. Mahabang katahimikan ang namayani. Nabasag lang ito ng magsalita si Alyssa sa tabi ko.

"Romanov..." she trailed, her eyes narrowing at me. "You can fool everyone except me," she said.
