Chapter 91

Lexi followed me to the kitchen, her hand in mine.

I still wasn't exactly sure how I was supposed to process all of this.

I should probably be calling Doctor Boseman to have another emergency session instead of thinking about potentially making out in the kitchen with Lexi.

I should be telling her that I had been in love with her for years, but also that I'd tried to kill myself before, and that I was definitely not the poster child for mental health. I should be telling her I was taking medication for my mental health right now actually, so she could know what she was getting herself into before things went any further.

But I wanted for just one moment to enjoy this.

I'd fess everything up when the sun would rise again.

But for now, under the cover of the moon, I gave myself permission to just enjoy this moment.

It was probably a mistake. I knew what happened the last time I wasn't entirely truthful with her.

I guessed I really didn't learn from my mistakes.

"You hungry?" I asked my Pumpkin, while she sat on one of the stools around the island, and I went to stand on the other side.

Better to keep a large counter between the two of us.

For my mental health.

"Sure, but you can't cook Blake," Lexi replied, her elbows on the island, leaning her chin on her palms, looking at me with the most adorable face.

Could I just like? Lean over and kiss her? I was allowed to do that right?

I'd gotten all of my privileges back? Right?

Fuuuuuck, she looked hot.

"I could surprise you," I replied, trying to keep my cool.

"Yes, setting fire to the kitchen would definitely be a surprise," she chuckled, looking absolutely delighted to be able to tease me again.

Almost as much as I was to be able to be teased by her again.

"Party pooper," I replied, grinning and couldn't really help it, leaned over the counter, pressing my lips to hers.

Anita picked this perfect timing to walk into the kitchen.

It was probably a good thing.

"The party moved to my kitchen?" she asked in Spanish, looking a little amused.

"Sorry, did we wake you?" I replied in Spanish too.

"No, no, it's fine. Just don't touch the oven. Or anything really. I'll get you some food," she replied, still with that smug little smile.

And Lexi decided to flick my ear at that moment. I looked back at her and she was adorably pouting at me.

Oh right, Spanish. She didn't understand.

I'd been too overjoyed to think about that detail.

But also, like adorable.

"Anita will cook us her awesome food," I explained.

Lexi narrowed her eyes at me, like she didn't completely trust my translation. "You know I hate it when you speak foreign languages in front of me," she whined.

"Yes, but you love me so you can deal with it," I found myself automatically replying.

Just so I could say those words out loud. Just so I could send them out in the universe again. Just to make sure they would stay true.
