Chapter 88

It was Saturday evening, and it was football night and this time I was playing the game. I wasn't starting, but I was still gonna be on the field a few times because Coach usually got annoyed with his running backs quickly.

He got annoyed with me a lot of times.

It was definitely my worst performance.

We won by a minuscule margin and I had nothing to do with it.

Still, the guys celebrated once we got back to the lockers, happy with the victory.

"So, where are we eating before the party?" Cameron asked.

"Wait, which party?" Peter asked.

"Party at my place," Simon yelled, making whooping sounds.

"Let's eat sushi!" Clark shouted.

"Sushi? Are you out of your fucking mind? I'm not made of money," Cameron whined.

"Chinese buffet! Chinese buffet!" someone else yelled, I didn't catch who.

I felt a pain in my heart at those words. There was one Chinese buffet in town. The one where Lexi and I had gone together. I had no desire of going there.

It was a good thing I'd already told Josh to pick me up right after the game even though I was still a little mad at him after dropping his Jayden-had-secrets bomb.

"Hey, wait, where you going?" Trevor asked as I was heading out with my bag on my back.

"Going home," I just replied, trying to smile a little.

The twin frowned, "You're not coming with us?"

"I had nothing to do with this victory so I really shouldn't celebrate," I said with a shrug.

"Come on, everyone has bad games. It was your first time. No one holds it against you," he told me, nudging my arm with the helmet he was still holding.

"It's fine, I'm not exactly in a party mood, I'll just sour your evening," I told him, still trying to keep the smile and just left the room, ignoring his complaints and the ones from my other friends.

Luckily Josh was parked close by, so I was able to get away quickly, without feeling more like shit.

"So?"

"Let's just not talk about that game. Thaaaank you."

"Fine, fine, cool, cool, okay, okay," Josh nodded, driving away, "but huh, didn't you want to hang out with your friends?"

I crossed my arms over my chest. "I am hanging out with my best friend, even though he's a traitor and he's keeping stuff from me about my brother."

"Oooooh my gooooood," Josh whined, kinda throwing his head back while keeping his eyes on the road. "do you need to know every little detail about him to actually know him? Like, if he was still alive, would you need to know everything about him? Would you need to know if he picks his nose when he's alone in his room, or what porn he watches or every little embarrassing detail that might have happened?"

"So, it's embarrassing stuff?"

"It's inconsequential stuff in the grand scheme of things. Your brother loved you more than anything. That's all you need to know Blake. If you're not staying here, you're not getting the secrets."

Still pouting with my arms crossed, I started outside. "Whatever, I'm still annoyed with you. You'll pay for our plane tickets to Mexico."

"I still think you should have stayed with your friends. You won't be seeing them after that. Don't you care about them?"
