"I honestly consider it a miracle Jaehyun has survived this surgery. The chances of him making it were very slim," Dr. Sim explained calmly, "I think he finally found the courage to pass through the times." He said, passing a short nod towards Sunghoon.

Mr. Wu sighed in relief, a huge burden lifting itself off his heart, "That means he will wake up soon, right?" He asked, peeping into Jaehyun's ward as he watched his son resting away so soundly, almost as if he was taking a short nap. He looked so peaceful just laying down there, untouched and pure.

Dr. Sim nodded, "I'm pretty positive, Sir. The surgery went well and his vitals are on point. I'll predict the time to be atleast a few days though it may take longer."

I looked away, right through the glass door of the ward, at Jaehyun. My eyes were once again brimming with tears, only this time they were of pure joy and relief.

"You can go inside," A whisper right beside me made me snap my head towards Seo Taehee. I raised my eyebrows at her, unsure if I heard her correctly. She nodded with a small smile, "He's asleep, which is why I'm allowing you in."

With slightly parted lips, I watched her open the door to the spacious ward for me, beckoning me to walk inside. And I did, watching her close the door with a gentle smile on her face.

Mrs. Wu was staring at her son with the most motherly, loving gaze I had ever seen in her eyes, his hand grasped gently in her pale, trembling ones. Her eyes were red with the trauma she had to witness, seeing her only son go to hell and back.

I placed a warm hand on her shoulder, massaging it lightly, "Your son is the bravest person I've ever seen." I told her, and she nodded, her lips trembling. She let her hand dart up to remove Jaehyun's hair out of his face, only to watch them fall back softly on his forehead. I smiled, "You should take some rest, Mrs. Wu."

"Feels.. strange." She gulped, turning her head to look up at me, "It feels strange hearing you address me like that." She said with a frown.

Letting go of Jaehyun's hand, she firmly placed her hands on my shoulder, "Even if we cannot have you as our daughter-in-law, don't distance yourself from us. Be our lovely daughter forever, Areum." She said, her eyes pleading.

I was taken aback at the request, my heart filling with love and warmth for the woman in front of me. Even though I was not her real daughter, she never treated me unlike one. She always cared for me more than my own mother did. I could not bring myself to not agree, and I mumbled, "Of course, mom."

She smiled in relief, patting my back, "Good," She signaled me to the seat she was previously sitting on, "I'll leave you here then." She said, as I bowed politely to her before her short exit.

I looked around the space, the temperature being rather cold. The morning looked peaceful outside the window, it wasn't raining anymore and the sun wasn't very bright either. An ideal weather.

I turned around slightly to face myself in the hand mirror kept on the desk nearby. A breathy, and rather disappointed chuckle left my mouth to see my dress splotched with red wine stains. Amazing. It was all that happened the previous night amongst the chaos and now another favourite dress was ruined as well.

"Jaehyun," I called out softly before taking my seat on the chair beside his bed. I wasn't sure if it was the lack of sleep that was making me hallucinate or did I just see his ears perk up slightly as if he could hear me. As if he could feel my presence somewhere around him.

I smiled, maybe he could afterall.

With a deep breath, I grasped his hand that was laying limp beside him, careful as a drip was inserted on the backside of hand. His faded blue pajama shirt had been rolled till his elbows, and his hand looked pale. Really pale. But he was very much alive, and breathing. Right in front of me.

I brought his hand upto my face, kissing the tips of his fingers, "Thank you," I said with a content sigh. I let silence linger for a moment longer before I mumbled, "For living." I gave his hand a gentle squeeze, warming up his cold hand.

"I'm so proud of you," I let my hand come up to caress his beautiful black hair out of his face with a small smile, "You did so well."

Though he showed no signs of waking up throughout my time with him that day, I was pretty sure he could hear me, that he could feel my touch. That maybe he could feel my desperateness when I told him to wake up quickly and be okay.

"You should go rest," A warm hand caressed my back and I turned out up to look at Saeun. She offered me a kind smile, "You didn't sleep at all last night. I'll stay with him for the time being."

I nodded, letting go of Jaehyun's hand after I gently placed it beside him. Sunghoon was standing at the door of the ward with his arms crossed. His white shirt had blotches of the red wine over them too, and he looked equally exhausted. And yet, his facial features were graced with a beautiful light-tipped smile, making me reciprocate the gesture.

"Make way, make way!" A voice ushered before a man with a ridiculously large bouquet of roses appeared at the door, hastily pushing Sunghoon out of the way. Sunghoon stumbled over the side to me from the force, and I caught his arm in time.

"What is that?" Sunghoon asked, looking rather offended after being pushed out of the way like that.

"It's a fucking bouquet, blind bitch." Jay hissed at his younger brother before placing the flowers on the side table. The aroma of the beautiful roses was quick to spread across the room, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

Sunghoon's face turned rather sour, while Saeun snorted a laugh at the two brothers. She then sat down on the stool, and as if everyone was determined to not leave Jaehyun alone even for a minute, she reached out to grasp Jaehyun's hand tight. It was a tight, firm grasp. So tight, almost as if she wasn't planning of letting it go anytime soon.

As if she was telling him that she was there for him. With him.

I won't let go now, let me help you make your way out of the acute ache of not having her.

She pressed her lips in a faint line, turning around to look at Sunghoon and Areum for a moment before she let herself gaze over Jaehyun.
