10 years later

"Ella, you can't catch me!" Grace giggled

"I can!" Ella laughed

"Careful girls" Meredith smiled as she was curled up on the hammock

"Of course mom" Grace laughed

Meredith kept watching her two girls running until they were absolutely exhausted

"I'm tired" Ella sighed

"I bet" Meredith chuckled and opened both arms so the two girls could climb underneath it

"What are we having for dinner?" Ella asked

"Spaghetti, your favourite" Meredith kissed both girls' heads

"Yes! You are the best!" Ella smiled

"Thank you" Meredith giggled

A few years ago she had gotten a letter from her ex husband telling her he had cancer and was gonna die. A few months later she got a call from someone to tell her that he passed away

Ella had asked her a few times what happened and why he wasn't in her life but it always upset Grace

Ella was a sweet girl that wished to be like her older sister. Both girls looked alike and were copies of Meredith which no one minded

"Mommy, I want to go to the pond next week" Grace said

"Hmm.. Let's talk about that later"

A few hours later the three girls had moved to the couch inside where it was much warmer. They each had a plate with spaghetti and they were eating while watching their favourite tv show

"Louise told me I should do something with painting" Grace said

"Then Louise is right, honey" Meredith smiled

"Do you really think I can do that?" Grace questioned

"Honey, you are so talented and if you have fun in it I think you should try" Meredith smiled

"But what if I don't become a doctor?" Grace frowned

"Then so it be. Why would that play any part? You should be happy and if painting makes you happy then go for it" Meredith kissed Grace's head

"I love you" Grace whispered as she leaned into her mother's touch

Meredith and Grace had a lot to learn in the past ten years. They had to learn to trust other people like Derek, Addison, Mark and Alex, which wasn't always easy

"I have my appointment tomorrow with my therapist" Grace quietly said

"Is it helping?" Meredith asked and put her plate down, Ella was still eating and didn't pay much attention to anything else than the tv

"Yeah.. Sleeping gets easier again" Grace smiled at her mother

"I'm proud of you" Meredith kissed Grace's forehead as they continued to watch the movie

The girls were still laying down on the couch until they heard the front door opening

"Dad!" Ella turned around

"Hey my girls" Derek smiled as he walked in "How have you three been?" He asked as he hung up his jacket and took off his shoes

"We've been doing great!" Meredith smiled

Derek walked towards the kitchen and grabbed himself a glass of wine and took a seat on the couch

"You are still in the same sweats as when I left" He chuckled

"We had a lazy day" Meredith giggled and rested her head onto his chest and cuddled close into his touch

"You deserved a lazy day" Derek kissed her lips

"Daaaad" Ella whined

"My bad, no kissing in front of miss Ella" Derek chuckled

"Go upstairs and don't bother us" Grace whined as she saw Derek placing soft kisses in Meredith's neck

"Really?" Derek smirked

"Derek!" Meredith slapped his shoulder

"Oh my god" Grace rolled her eyes "You two-"

"Your mom and I still feel young" Derek chuckled

"But you aren't" Ella and Grace chuckled

"Come on, Mer. Let's go outside for a minute because these teens are making fun of the elder people" Derek laughed

"I'm not part of the elder people!!" Meredith defenced herself

"Hmm" Derek frowned but lifted her into his arms causing her to giggle "Let this old man carry you outside"

Not gonna lie, this story was a road full of emotions. I started this one with a lot of ideas but halfway I noticed I'm not the best person to write very detailed about these things. I had this story on hold for a while but I'm glad I finally finished it, I hope this is an ending you like. My main focus was to not let Meredith and Derek get too easily together because of what Meredith went through. And who knows, maybe I already started with the plans for a new story :p
