"Mommy, here's a glass of water" Grace handed it to Meredith

"Thank you sweetie, that's very nice of you" Meredith forced a smile as she pushed herself up while her upper body was killing her

"Can I sit with you?" Grace asked

"Of course" Meredith softly smiled as her daughter cuddled into her good side but winced as she touched her stomach

"Mommy, are you 'kay?" Grace asked

"I'm okay" She sighed and slowly sipped her water until she heard the door open. She dropped the glass out of fear and internally screamed at herself for making a mess. He would be angry, he would blame her and he was right. She was clumsy, she was worthless

"What's wrong with you?" He snapped "Do you wanna hurt our daughter?"

"I-I didn't- I'll go clean it up" She carefully stood up from the couch to prevent the shattered pieces of glass

"Come here Gracie. Daddy will help you out of the living room so you can't accidentally hurt yourself" Matt lifted her and Meredith watched every single move je made carefully

"Why are you standing there like that? Shouldn't you clean up your mess?" He snapped "Grace, why don't you go upstairs to play with your dolls?" He quietly suggested

"Okay" Grace quietly said as she looked at looked at her mom who nodded

Meredith returned and started collecting the pieces of glass with her one uninjured hand

"Oh please, as if your shoulder even hurts that bad" He snapped and pushed her which made her compose herself but which also caused her to replace her hand, accidentally in the glass

She cried out in pain both from the pain in her shoulder and the glass that was sticking in her hand

"I'm gonna shower" He told her

She cleaned up the mess as quick as possible so she could stand at the bottom of the stairs to make sure he didn't snap at their daughter. She grabbed a towel with her other hand which made her wince from the pain in her shoulder and she wrapped it around her bleeding hand

The moment she heard him coming downstairs, she hurried back to the kitchen and waited there for him

"D-Do you wanna h-have dinner?" She quietly asked

"What are you gonna make?" He looked at her with dark eyes

"Mac and cheese, i-is that okay?"

"That will do" He sighed "I can't help that my wife is lazy and doesn't even wanna thank her husband after all those long hours of work" He snapped as he started drinking whiskey

"W-what would you want?" She asked him

"Didn't you hear me?" He yelled "Just make your stupid mac and cheese!"

Meredith nodded and started making the food until she heard tiny footsteps coming down the stairs

"Mommy? Can I help you?" Grace asked

"It's okay honey" Meredith softly smiled

"Is your hand okay?" She asked "You have a booboo"

"It's okay baby" Meredith forced a smile for her daughter, she didn't want her little girl to worry

"What the hell?" Matt walked in as he heard them talking "Grace, I told you to go upstairs"

"She was asking for something to drink" Meredith quickly replied

"Are you putting her up against me again?" He snapped and raised his hand which he slapped against her cheek

"Not in front of her!" Meredith harsly whispered at him

"You're not gonna demand what I can and cannot do!" Matt yelled at her

"Grace, it's okay" Meredith wealy grabbed her daughter's hand and held her behind her

"You're unbelievable Meredith!" He yelled and threw the pot full of mac and cheese at the wall, causing it to fly everywhere

"Mommy" Grace whimpered

"I'll take care of you" Meredith whispered

"Mommy will always take care of you!" Matt yelled "Grace, go to your room!"

Grace was frozen in her spot but ran upstairs as Merdith gave her a nod. She quickly ran to her room and hid herself in the closet

"You feel powerful now, right?" Matt walked closer to Meredith after he grabbed the bottle of whiskey again

"M-Matt.." She gasped as he squeezed her injured shoulder

"Is there something wrong honey?" Matt smirked

"P-Please" She cried it out

"You're such a disappointment, Meredith. You can't even protect your daughter he said as he drunk the whiskey

"P-Please" She begged but he pushed her on the ground before kicking her all over her legs, hip and back

"You fucking whore! I told you you shouldn't try to hook up with every man in sight!" Matt yelled as his phone started ringing

"Dr Jones" He picked up "I'll be there in a bit" He replied and put on his shoes and jacket before taking a last gulp of whiskey before leaving the house

Meredith tried to sit up but her body protested at the movement

"Mommy, are you okay?" Grace quietly asked as she was hiding behind the door

"I-I" Meredith tried to say before she groaned in pain

"Mommy, should I call 911?" Grace asked

"No honey. G-Give me my phone please" Meredith asked

Grace ran over with her mother's phone in her hand and gave it to Meredith

"H-Hi Bailey. Could you connect me to Alex' phone please?" Meredith asked as she stayed on the ground, tightly holding her daughter's hand as her phone was on speaker and resting on her chest
