Alex had taken Meredith home the previous day. He had installed her and Grace in his guest room

"Meredith, are you hungry?" Alex asked as he entered her bedroom

"We're okay" Meredith smiled softly as Grace was asleep in her arms

"I can bring some food up here if you want?" Alex suggested

"No- It's okay" Meredith nodded softly as she tried not to look at Alex

"Mer, are you okay?" He quietly asked as he kneeled down in front of the bed

"Matt-" She started

"He's been working. Addison said he has been saying you're good but you have a hard time with the recovery" Alex explained

"I should go home-" She blurted out

"Meredith, no way I'm gonna let you return. That man hurt you" Alex looked at her with tearful eyes

"He's just having a hard time- He's mourning and we just moved and-" Meredith was lost for words

"Mer you know better" Alex rubbed her thigh but noticed she flinched. She barely had flinched around him

"Mommy, I don't wanna go home" Grace whispered

Meredith nodded and pulled the girl closer but winced in pain

"Mommy, don't move. I'll be your doctor" Grace smiled and got up to kiss her mother's casted leg from toe to thigh and then moved to her shoulder

"Thank you Dr Gracie" Meredith smiled softly

"Grace, do you wanna help me make some lunch?" Alex asked and the little girl looked at Meredith

"Y-You can if you want" Meredith smiled softly

Grace smiled again and got out of the bed and reached out for Alex' hand

"Come on little one" Alex laughed

Alex and Grace were heating up some soup when they heard Meredith scream

"Mommy!" Grace ran towards her mother's room

"Gracie, let me" Alex told the little girl

"No!" She yelled and ran to her mother

"G-Gracie?" Meredith gasped as her hand was resting on her chest as her breathing was labored

"Mommy, are you 'kay?"

"Oh- G-Gracie" Meredith had trouble breathing

"Mer, you are okay. Grace is here with you, you two are safe" Alex rubbed her back

"Baby- Please- Stay with mommy, okay?" Meredith kissed her daughter's head as she nodded

The two of them stayed in each other's arms until Grace had to use the restroom

"Mommy, I need to go do peepee" Grace said

"I-I'll go with you" Meredith said as her voice started to tremble. She got up and winced in pain as she moved her casted leg

"Mommy, I can go by myself! Stay in bed" Grace smiled and kissed Meredith's cheek

"L-Leave the door open!" Meredith yelled after her. She was so focussed on listening to what Grace was doing that she didn't notice Alex was standing in the doorframe

"Mer, are you okay?" He softly asked as she saw how anxious and tense she was. He didn't move closer as he didn't want her to get worse

"Gracie?" Meredith cried out
