"Meredith, you are not going home!" Alex tried to stay as calm as possible to not scare her

"Alex, he has been sending me texts to ask where me and our daughter were, I have to go back. Can you please just drop me off a bit before he comes home?"

"I don't trust him, Meredith" Alex sighed

"Me neither but I can't risk it to lose my daughter so I have to do this" Her voice cracked

"Can I at least get an update every hour? Otherwise I'm coming over to check on you"

"Alex-" She started

"That wasn't a question" He nodded

"Okay" She sighed in agreement "Matt isn't the worst" She started "Before.. Before some.. Events-"

Alex frowned as she started to explain

"We lost a baby" She looked at her hands "It started after I gave birth to Grace, I barely gave him attention and it had gotten better, it really had" Meredith started "Then I had gotten pregnant again, another girl" She smiled as she explained "But I-I lost her at five months"

"I'm sorry Meredith, I had no clue" Alex grabbed her hand

"Something changed him.. He started drinking more and more and he really started to hurt me" She explained "I always made sure he wouldn't hurt Gracie"

"Mer.." Alex sighed as he was lost for words after hearing what his friend went through

"I worked less and less hours. Me and Grace were home alone a lot" She remembered "But Matt isn't an evil person. He wasn't when I met him" She firmly said "I really love him, we have two daughters together, we have a house, we have a future"

"Mer, he abused you for years" Alex shook his head

"Alex, I love him, okay?" She stated and Alex nodded in response

"But what he's doing is wrong and I'm not scared to tell him that, okay?" Alex reminded her

"It's okay Alex. Can we go home now?" She asked

Alex helped her in the wheelchair and placed the sleeping little girl on her lap and wheeled her to his car and helped them in

...

Alex had dropped them off at Meredith's house. He wanted to stay but she claimed it would be better if he wasn't with her

She had called Matt to tell him she was home, she hadn't told him about the cast and injuries yet, she hoped this would let him realise he was wrong

"Mommy, you need something?" Grace asked as she brought Meredith a bottle of water

"Gracie, I'm okay" Meredkth giggled "Come sit with me" She smiled

"Alex told me I need to take care of you!" She carefully explained

"I know baby but I'm fine for now. I'll tell you if I need something, I promise" She smiled

"Okay" Grace giggled and started playing with her stuffed animal in her lap

"Daddy will be home soon" Meredith softly smiled

"Will daddy hurt you?" She asked

"No honey. Daddy was just a bit sad and angry, he didn't mean to hurt me" Meredith softly explained "Daddy would never hurt you"

"Okay" Grace whispered and continued playing with her stuffed elephant

...

When Matt walked into the room, he was quiet. Grace was asleep in Meredith's lap, her tiny arms tightly, but carefully, wrapped around her mom's waist

"Hi" Meredith whispered as she saw her husband walking toward her spot on the couch where her casted leg was stuffed up on pillows

"Did you tell anyone?" He asked with a stern voice and smiled as she shook her head no, which was a lie "What did you tell in the hospital?" He asked

"That i slipped" She quietly said and he nodded. She watched him walk away to the kitchen and she sighed, cuddling Grace close to her body but wincing as she touched a bruise

She could hear the sound of the whiskey bottle opening and shook her head slightly. Time passed as she just tried to ignore everything until Matt came into the living room

"Why did you go to the doctors?" He asked

"Matt, my leg is broken, I can't move my shoulder and my hand was stitched up" Meredith softly explained

"And that's my fault?" He snapped

"N-No, but I had to go see a doctor" Meredith said

"Why didn't you page me?" He came closer

"I didn't go to Seattle Grace" She explained

"That's good" He smirked and started drinking

"Matt, you have a shift in 6 hours" Meredith reminded him

"You will keep your mouth shut" Matt grabbed her by her throat but all shy could think about what that Grace couldn't wake up

Meredith nodded as Matt walked upstairs. She repositioned herself on the couch, her sleeping daughter still in her arms as she tried to close her eyes

She woke up when she heard their alarm upstairs, she slowly sat up as she was sore for sleeping on the couch and her four year old daughter who was asleep on her bruised torso

"Mommy?" Grace whispered

"It's okay honey" Meredith rubbed her back "Let's go have some breakfast" She whispered and carefully pushed herself up. Because of her shoulder she couldn't use crutches but there was no other way for her to move around so she limped on her cast to the kitchen to get her daughter some oatmeal

"Are we going to the hosbibal today?" Grace asked

"No honey, we're staying home today but daddy's supposed to go in" Meredith explained

"Daddy has to save people today?" Grace asked

"Yeah honey" Meredith breathed as she heard the alarm again even if she knew he was way too drunk to work today. Meredith watched as her daughter was eating her breakfast

"Mommy, I'm done!" Grace giggled and pulled Meredith out of thoughts

"Perfect honey. Why don't we get you dressed, maybe we can play outside for a bit" She suggested

Grace nodded and walked behind her mom "The doctors said you shouldn't walk mommy"

"I'll rest in a bit" Meredith softly smiled as she made her way upstair, trying not to wince in pain "Let's get you ready, princess"
