A few hours later after Meredith was supposed to scrub in with Derek to fix the patient, he had already died on Matt's table after his brain bleed made him stroke out

Meredith was doing some charting as she got paged to Matt's office

"Meredith" Matt sighed

"Matt?" She didn't dare to look into his dark eyes

"Dr Jones" He said sternly

"Excuse me Dr Jones" Meredith whispered

"I can't hear you" He snapped as he stood up

"Excuse me Dr Jones" Meredith repeated a bit louder this time

"Why did you do that?" Matt asked her as he stood right in front of her

"D-Do what?" Meredith didn't dare to look up

"Tell me I was wrong!" He slapped her in her face "Look at me!" He yelled as he held her face tight in his hand

"I-I didn't mean t-to" She stuttered

"Go home and go get our daughter. Hopefully you can finally do something good. Otherwise she can start to hate you too, just like your mother hated you, just like many people do!" Matt spat in her face "And be quiet. Make sure no one sees you" He pushed her away and she stumbled slightly backwards and had to compose herself

She quickly walked out of the room and hurried her way to the attendings' lounge to grab her bag. She didn't change her clothes and just went to daycare in her scrubs. She signed out her daughter and carried her on her hip outside

"Mommy kay?" Grace asked as she rested her head on her mom's shoulder

"Mommy's okay baby" Meredith whispered "Gracie?"

"What's wrong mommy?" Grace looked up at her mother

"I love you. I really do" Meredith told her

"I love you too mommy" Grace kissed Meredith on her slightly bruised cheek. Grace started brushing her finger over Meredith's bruised cheek "You have booboo" Grace frowned

"It's okay Gracie. It's okay" Meredith rubbed her daughter's back

"Doctor Grey! Meredith!" She heard someone yelling and turned around, grace in front of her cheek

"Doctor Shepherd?" Meredith frowned

"Hi, I'm sorry for holding you up. I just wanted to check if you were okay" He smiled softly

"Why wouldn't I be?" She started to panic

"Because of that patient.. I just wanted to make sure" He used his famous McDreamy face

"I'm fine" She softly smiled

"Hi!" He said to Grace

"Hi" Grace giggled

"How are you doing here in Seattle?" Derek asked the little girl

"Good" Grace giggled "Love the hosbibal"

"It's a big hospital!" Derek smiled

"We- We really need to go.." Meredith sighed as she saw her husband walking through the hallway

"Bye! High Five?" Derek lifted his hand for Grace to return the High Five but Meredith flinched away, quickly cuddling the girl in her arms

"Meredith, no- I-I'm sorry" Derek frowned

"We have to go" Meredith quietly said as she started to run off towards her car. She quickly strapped in Grace and drove home

"Mommy, I'm hungry" Grace whispered as they reached their house

"Let's go inside and I'll heat up some food for you" Meredith carried the little girl out of the car

"Come on mommy!" Grace jumped up and down

"Coming" Meredith smiled and grabbed her stuff. She felt the lump in her throat as she walked towards the front door. She hated coming home, it meant something could happen any second but now Matt wasn't home and with a bit of luck they would cross each other

Meredith opened the door and let herself and Grace inside before locking the door again. She placed her stuff down on its place and walked towards the kitchen where she started to prepare dinner for herself and her daughter, making some extras so Matt had food when he returned from the hospital

"These are the best potatoes" Grace giggled

"Thank you Grace" Meredith smiled softly as she tried to get the food in her mouth even if the knot in her stomach prevented the food from settling down

"Can we watch a movie later?" Grace asked Meredith

"Of course honey" Meredith smiled as she watched her daughter eating

"I'm finished!" Grace smiled after a while

"Let's put our plates away" Meredith smiled softly

"Mommy, you didn't eat all of your food" Grace frowned

"I know, I'm just not very hungry" Meredith softly smiled "Let's go cuddle on the couch"

Meredith carried Grace on her hip, turned on the tv and smiled as she saw her daughter enjoying the movie

Her attention got pulled away by one of the pictures in the room. It was a picture of when she just had given birth

"Meredith, don't you hear her cry?" Matt snapped, it was something Meredith wasn't used to

"Going" Meredith sighed as she pushed herself up. The c-section really hadn't done anything good for her. Her stomach was on fire, her legs felt like cement and her whole body was sore

She walked upstairs to the nursery and started nursing the baby

When Meredkth finally succeeded to let Grace stop crying, she sat down in the rocking chair in the corner of the room in case the baby would wake up again and to let her body rest a bit

"Meredith, what the hell?!" She heard Matt yelling

"W-What?" She jumped up but winced as she felt her stomach ripping

"So you're already forgetting about me?" His eyes looked dark

"Matt, I-" Meredith said as she slowly composed herself

"I don't need it, Meredith! Go cuddle with that baby instead of your husband" He snapped and pushed her against the wall

"Ah!" She winced in pain as her back hit the wall, which caused her to fall on the ground "Matt!" She wanted to run after him but had no energy to push herself up

Meredith hit the ground and it seemed as if Grace got scared by the sudden noise. Meredith crawled up on her feet and carried Grace in her arms

"Mommy's here, it's okay. Mommy's here" She kissed the little girl's forehead
