Axel

I beat the river back I don't know how many times. It just keeps coming, blasting me with water, threatening to tug me off my feet. I stagger a million times but somehow I keep my footing, the water wrapping around me almost lovingly as it subsides its attack on my legs.

"What do you want?" I finally scream into it, as I spin the bar that I've been using to deflect some of the water.

Stop filling my waters with the bodies of your victims

"Done!! Did not know that would be offensive I'm sorry, I will not do that," I shout.

One more final wave crashes over me. I'm slammed into the bottom of the river. And then I'm done. I drop the bar, fighting for the surface. I'm a good swimmer but the current is strong and the water thick and murky.

Hands wrap around mine, and I grip them tightly as they pull me to the surface. Then just as quickly they are gone, as though never there at all.

I blink water of my eyes, gasping for breath.

"I've got you," Phoenix is there, actually grinning, as he grabs my arms in the water, his dark hair plastered against his face.

"Hey, you," I say, pressing my face to his.

"I'm right here," he whispers.
