wake up
wake up
wake up
hey you
wake up

I get a painful sting in my cheek as my eyes open further, and I'm confronted with a woman staring down at me. I push her away and remain vigilant.

She hastily exits the room, her back to the bars. That's when I discovered I was locked up. I'm still in medical clothes.

As I rise from the ground, my entire body aches, as does my head. "Well, you're up." She chuckles, her hair in a fish braid, and she's dressed in a black turtleneck with high-waisted trousers.

She appears to be in her late fifties, yet she is still in good shape. It's almost as if she doesn't age at all.

"Did you slap me?" I inquire, and she proudly nods. "Well, why don't you open the cage and come in huh?" I draw nearer to the bars.

"And why would I do something like that?" She grins as she sits on the ground. I take my time examining her. She's not someone I've met before. She doesn't speak with a distinct accent.

She changes her accent from American to British. Probably to confuse me, but I'm not stupid. I can see she isn't white.

"Why don't you take a seat so we can talk?" she demands, "Are you requesting or commanding?" I retort.

"Since you're going to be here for a while, I recommend you sit down and listen to what I have to say because it might be of great assistance to you." She says it solemnly and without a hint of humor in her voice.

bipolar.

I give up and sit on the chilly floor, waiting to hear what she has to say; I don't have a choice.

"you're in trouble." she begins, "yeah sorry mom." sarcastically, I say.

"I'm attempting to help you, idiota." she sighs, "If you want to help me, then get me out of this jail," I answer, my fists crossed over my chest.

"I can't," she says, you're in big trouble. I'm not sure how you ended up in the company of the poisonous viper, but you did, and it's dangerous."

poisonous viper? what?

"What exactly are we talking about?" I ask confused, "The poisonous viper," she says in a duh tone.

for an old lady, she surely has an attitude of a teenager.

"listen. The poisonous viper is driven by a desire for strength and dominance. and has been attempting to obtain it for some years. and for some reason, the last duty requires you to be killed."

"what the fuck that gotta do with me?" I retort.

"everything. He's been looking for you for a long time. Everyone else was, too, but they were attempting to get you ahead of him to keep him away from you from obtaining power.

Because if he kills you, the game is over. We're going to be ruled by a lunatic knucklehead." she sighs.

"Did you drink expired water today?" If she thinks I'll fall for this, she's the most stupid person living.

"You're not paying attention!" She scolds me vehemently.

"I am, and you sound like a crazy bitch who needs to take her meds," I dismiss her with a gesture "You need to vanish. Hide forever." In hushed tones, she says.

"To do that, you must let me out of this prison, and I may be able to spare your life." I twirl my hair, "I will, once you decide to listen and believe." She locked her gaze on me.
