The week went off without a hitch. It's just me in my cell, and Kenji comes in now and then to beat me up and ask questions that he doesn't get answers to.

Evelyn and I had just met a few days ago. She claimed she wasn't terrified of me, it was an act, and she wasn't Kenji's true sister. She said that's a story for another time, although I'm not sure I'll be able to hear it because I won't be here long enough.

I haven't had a shower in days and I'm covered with bruises all over my body. But it doesn't bother me. You eventually become numb and lose your ability to feel.

I lost mine when I was 8.

I can't help but wonder who my mother is if Vladimir is my father. Vladimir was never in love and never had a woman by his side, according to history. Is it possible that I was a mistake? Is it true that I'm a monster just like my father?

When I feel as if the world is collapsing in on me, I try to remember my mother's voice, face, or any other sense that might bring me comfort.

I don't remember her voice anymore.

What happened to the years? It seems like only yesterday that we were planning a vacation, and now I'm killing people while convincing myself that it's the proper thing to do.

I'm looking for a way to feel something. Agony and joy I'm in desperate need of sensation. I want something to fill the void in my heart. I'm just feeling drained. It's empty.

In months, I haven't killed anyone. Killing people gives me a sense of accomplishment. People who are particularly evil and deserving of death. It's entertaining to watch them beg for their life.

The cell door opens, showing one of Kenji's men, Rio, I believe. When I first came, he was pleasant to me until he realized who I was.

As he removes my chains and pulls me outside, he doesn't say anything. I don't ask where he's taking me because I know he won't tell me. Mafia men are like that. They've been taught not to express emotion or even speak to anyone.

To be honest, I think they're just trained to be dicks.

Men from all over the mansion are staring at me as I walk through it. Some smirked, while others seemed disgusted. The home is so large that it could house an entire country. Kenji's men and family all live together.

The maids live on the first floor. The second floor is for his men, the third and fourth floors are for his family, and Kenji gets the fifth floor to himself. Nobody is permitted in there, not even the maids who are supposed to clean his room.

What are you hiding?

We stop in front of the large oak door. I'm guessing this is Kenji's second office, given his affinity for wood. Rio motions for me to enter, and I do so.

Kenji is sitting in his normal spot, with Sebastian just in front of him. He's alive, thank God. I may not say it out loud, but I don't want Sebastian to die. He is still my best friend, believe it or not.

Massimo and Vince have also arrived. When Massimo sees me, he flashes a wide smile. On the other side, Vince is being himself.

"You wanted to see me?" I will direct the question to Kenji. Sebastian didn't say anything or even glance at me when I asked. He seemed to be very uneasy. He's seated among the Bianchis, after all.

Kenji raised his eyes from his papers. "Now that you've seen," he says to Sebastian, ignoring my question. Your debt is settled because she is still alive." What debt is he referring to?

Sebastian nods and signs the paper before rising, but I remain in front of him, asking, "What debt?" I ask suspiciously. "Oh, this is going to be fun," Massimo mutters happily. "Come on, Sebastian, say something to her." Vince teases him.

I turn to Kenji, who is silently watching the conversation from his chair. With a raised brow, I return my focus to Sebastian.

"J-sit down and I'll tell you everything," he says. I cringe at the way he stutters. "Since I'm not seated, you better start talking." I grip his collar, and he gulps, his eyes wide with surprise.

He takes a deep breath in and out. "I had a debt to the Bianchis to pay off, and it was a large obligation. And then I heard they were looking for a she-devil, so I conducted some research and everything fell into place. I spent months looking for you and was eventually able to reach you. No masquerade party was held. It was all a set-up for you." He takes his gaze away from me.

liar liar liar.

Flashback.

Listen, I'm sorry I left you all alone. I didn't think you'd react this way. I'm truly sorry. He said sincerely, I believe him. One thing about me is that I can read people like an open book. Their body language, their eyes, their pulse.

"Leave." I requested I couldn't have him around after all this time. It'd risk blowing up my cover and putting him in danger too.

What's with the new nickname, "She-devil?" What have you gotten yourself into?" He completely ignored my previous request.

"That's none of your business. You lost the right to ask me about anything the moment you left. So do me a favor and find your way to the door." As I retorted coldly, something flashed in his eyes. guilt.

"Let's go back to how it was, just the two of us against the world. I promise not to disappoint you this time." He begs

Sebastian stops me just as I'm about to get out of the car and says, "Listen, I want to be with you till the end of time. Whatever you go through, I'm going to be with you."

The end of the flashback

"You lied to me." I am shocked as I try to grasp what has happened. "I didn't mean to," he speaks quietly.

It had all been a set-up. He didn't return to get me. He didn't want me alive; he didn't want me to live. He was willing to sell my soul to rescue his own.

Traitor

"Don't give me the 'I didn't mean to' nonsense; you knew what you were doing and still did it." I hiss.

"I'm sorry." With shame in his eyes, he looks up at me. Sorry, it irritates me since they are meaningless to me. Why should you be sorry? Why are you apologizing for what you did? You weren't sorry when you did it, but now you're sorry because I found out?

My rage gets the best of me, and all I can see is red.
