MERCY

I walked into the Barrington house only to be met with two curious faces. One was Judith who looked at me and the other one was Lyra who smiled

"Mama!" She yelled as she began jumping. Judith gave Lyra a glare as I picked her up. Lyra had gotten so big. I missed her first steps. I hugged her as she giggled. I felt a small hand hit me

"No!" I heard Judith yell. I glared at the child

"Excuse me?" I asked

"Mine!" She yelled

"Um, no.. she's mine" I said. Judith began crying as I held Lyra. I groaned and set her down. Lyra walked over to Judith and began patting her head. Judith stopped crying and smiled as she giggled. I smiled knowing these two would become best friends. The door opened and I turned to see Maggie. We embraced each other

"I missed you" I said

"I missed you too" She said

"Don't worry, I kept an eye on her for you" Maggie said

"Thank you" I said smiling

"Oh, I'm here to grab you. Rick's getting ready to give his speech" Maggie said

"Do not fret! I'll watch the kids!" Lee said walking in with a smile

"Thank you, Lee" I said as me and Maggie walked out. We went over to Rick. Everyone else was there. Maggie and Ezekiel joined him on top of the bed of the truck

"When I first met him.. Jesus said that my whole world was gonna get a whole lot bigger. Well, we found that world. We found each other. That.. 'bigger world' is ours by right. That we've come together for it, all of us.. it's that much more true.. it's ours by right. Any person who would live in peace and fairness, who would find common ground.. it's their right, too. But those who use and take and kill to carve out the world and make it theirs alone- we end them. We don't.. celebrate it. We don't have shame about it, either. There's only one person who has to die.. and I will kill him myself. I will. I will. But if it's the others.. the others who prop him up, stand by his side, even those who just look the other way- so be it. Then.. we keep making the world bigger. Together" Rick said with a smile

"Together. Bound forever! To quote The Bard, 'For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother'. For she today.. my sister" Ezekiel said. Shiva roared

"We've practiced. We've been through it over and over again. We all know the plan doesn't end this morning. That we may have to live in uncertainty for days, maybe more. That we have to keep our faith in each other. If we can hold on to that with everything we have.. the future is ours. The world is ours" Maggie said
