Don't follow whatever someone tells you blindly. Think it thoroughly before coming to any conclusion.
What others might advice you is something they have learned from their own experiences. And it may be true that there exists a lot of wisdom behind it, but you may have to filter it out first. Sift through and see what you can use to your benefit.
It's like that example my Mum always gave me. The notes which you write down yourself will be retained better and hence stay with you, unlike the ones you copy from others. The logic behind it that those notes are tailored to your needs and hence are going to be of more help to you than anything else. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't look to others for examples. Wise is that who learns from the mistake of others, instead of making all the mistakes firsthand😅
