☺︎︎ Chapter Sixty-Five

A sigh escapes Jeno's lips as he faces his vampire boyfriend, taking one of his hands; he holds it and gives it a small squeeze to gain Jaemin's full attention.

"Jaeminie hyung, I know you're going to get annoyed if I say the same thing over and over again." He starts off, already guessing what the older boy is thinking.

"But I really hope you realize how important this is for all of us, for you to take your place on the throne." He continues.

"And sure it's pressuring, stressful and basically a lot to handle. But that's just it, that's how it works and everyone knows that whether they've experienced it or not."

"Not everything is easy, Jaemin hyung." He mumbles, "you have to work hard to make it work. And to make it worth it."

He then cups Jaemin's face with his free hand, "now what's stopping you?" He asks, tilting his head to the side. "Is it the big responsibility?" Guessing at the end with a small pout.

Jaemin slightly shakes his head as he puts a hand on top of Jeno's own that was cupping his face, he holds it tightly and says, "it's not that."

"Then what is it?"

"I just don't think I'm fit for it. If I actually deserve to be king." He answers with a sad smile.

Jeno frowns deeply, stepping closer to Jaemin's space. However, he almost smiles when the vampire prince pulls him by the waist towards his chest.

"I know you're fit for it. You might doubt it but it's a fact, hyung. I believe in you a lot, I just know how much you can help everyone else." Jeno says.

He purses his lips and gulps, "I heard the possibility of someone else being king, and I really hope you won't let that happen, hyung."

"If someone else would be the ruler, we're in great danger. Just like you said before, hyung." He reminds to hopefully make Jaemin think about it more and maybe reconsider.

"A lot are after your throne, and they're all greedy and vicious vampires. I've seen some on our way here, no one will stop them except you."

He then abruptly lets go of Jaemin's hand, the older boy furrowing his eyebrows– wondering what happened until Jeno hugs him tightly.

Arms wrapped around his waist as the human boy's face was on Jaemin's broad chest, and before he knew it, he hears a sniffle as Jeno's figure trembles.

"Pup? What's wrong?" The vampire prince immediately asks, worried about. Hugging back just as tightly and kissing the top of Jeno's head.

Feeling strong arms wrapped around his shoulder, obviously pulling him closer, Jeno shakes his head. "I'm just scared." He mumbles.

"Of what, baby?" The foreign yet sweet pet name escapes Jaemin's mouth without hesitation. And he doesn't regret it at all.

Although Jeno has never heard it from the older boy, it still sends off the same giddy feeling he gets with the usual pet name.

He likes it. It might be his second favorite.

However, that'll be a talk for another time... Maybe.

Or they don't need to talk about it at all.

Jeno slowly looks up with a frown on his face, Jaemin wants to kiss it away.

So he did, connecting their lips for a moment before saying, "tell me, puppy." Caressing Jeno's waist gently.

"I'm scared they'll take advantage of the throne, and even against us once they find out. They'll hurt us, hy-hyung." Jeno emphasizes, hiccuping at the end.

He then continues to sniffle, until more tears escape his sad eyes, running down his soft cheeks as some of them drop to the ground while others are hanging off.

When Jaemin sees his crying face and soon hears a followed whimper, his heart aches and he feels like there's a crack in it. Knitting his eyebrows together, wrinkling his forehead.

He softly hushes his human boyfriend in his arms while pressing a long kiss on his crown, "I d-don't want to l-lose you, hyung." Another crack was heard for Jaemin's perspective.

The said boy hums before pulling away to lift Jeno's face again by the chin, "oh my poor baby," he couldn't help but slightly coo.

It hurts him that Jeno's scared of this, for once Jeno is scared about the vampire world.

Because he doesn't want anything to happen between them just because of a nasty random vampire as the ruler.

And Jaemin finally understands that, where he's coming from and why it's so important for him.

Jeno's friends have told him before, way back to the start, how much this soulmate thing is important for the human boy.

Because Jeno loves to love. He loves everyone and everything.

Like, even though he's seen those nasty and vicious vampires, he hasn't really bad mouthed them until now.

It just shows much Jeno loves Jaemin so much that he doesn't want anyone else to ruin their relationship like that.

And Jaemin agrees.

He realizes now what they've all been trying to tell him, about the bad possibilities of letting others take his place.

He doesn't want that either, especially if it would hurt his beloved.

He pecks the younger boy's teary eyes before moving down to his nose, "I understand now." He says.

Jeno's eyes widen and then raises a brow, "huh?"

"I finally understand how important this is," Jaemin repeats, smiling when he says, "and I accept. I'll take my place back."

"Really?" The human boy couldn't help but gasp, however his lips are forming a smile.

Nodding, Jaemin chuckles and says, "you're right, pup. You finally made me realize after all these years."

Lifting a hand up to caress Jeno's cheek with his thumb, he smiles wider. "I was very stubborn about it, but now I know. So I'll do it."

"Are you actually?" Jeno giggles in amusement.

The older boy snorts and shakes his head, "mostly doing this for us," he has the audacity to wink.

The human boy immediately blushes and looks away in shyness, making his vampire boyfriend to laugh.

"My dear soulmate, holy shit you're going to be king–"

"Pup, cute baby."
