"Mommy what's wrong?" Kairi asked in a sweet innocent voice. "Kairi, I need you to listen to mommy baby ok?." She responded by nodding her head. "Look in mommy's nightstand and hand mommy her phone. Can you do that baby?" I asked holding Dave's lifeless body. She ran over to the nightstand and instantly grabbed my phone and ran it over to me.

"Is daddy dead mommy?" Kairi asked. "No baby. Daddy isn't dead, he's just not feeling well and mommy has to call 911 to get him some help." I explained.

Kairi was such a smart girl and followed directions extremely well. Quickly opening the phone to call 911, I explained to the dispatcher what was going on and patiently waited for help to arrive.

"C'mon Dave c'mon, you can't do this to us. You can't leave us like this!" I cried. Sitting on the bathroom door with Dave's body against mine I could hear sirens approaching from afar. Grabbing a pillow from the ottoman Dave was sitting on I placed it under his head and quickly ran down stairs to meet the paramedics at the front door.

"Hi ma'am, where is he?" One guy came over quickly with equipment. Directing him upstairs to the bathroom, he acted quickly and began to perform cpr on Dave as he was unresponsive.

"Kairi c'mon baby you can't be in here." I guided Kairi to her room. I could tell by the look on her face that she was worried about her father. Helping Kairi slide into a pair of shoes and throw on a jacket, I myself ran into the room and threw on something quick to wear.

The paramedics now had Dave on a gurney and was hauling him into the ambulance. "C'mon baby we have to go." I explained to Kairi. I locked up the house and got Kairi settled into her booster seat
and we were soon off. The rain was coming down hard so I had to be extra careful and pay close attention to the road.

Telling Siri to call Janice, she picked up the phone and I briefly explained to her what was going on before I hung up and focused on the road.

The sounds of monitors filled the hospital hallways. I hated hospitals with a passion, I always felt like this was where people came to die. My heart was filled with guilt as all the mean nasty things I said to Dave ran through my mind. "Mrs. Brewster?" A nurse called out snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Come this way please." She instructed.

Kairi held my hand tightly as her little feet was walking as fast as they could to keep up.

"We ran a few test and found that this has been an overdose, now usually something of this nature would have killed him instantly but apparently Mr. Brewster has an guardian angel. However I am worried about this causing severe damage to the heart or the brain as well. The scans shown clear signs of either of those but not everything shows up right away, so we would like to keep him until he's well and for observation. The plan right now is to keep him hooked up to a couple infusion pumps and get all of those chemicals flushed out of his body. Now has Mr. Brewster been known to struggle with drugs in the past?" The nurse asked.

Nodding my head no I was really unsure of what I was answering to. Truth is Dave keep me out the loop when it came to certain things. Especially anything that was illegal, he kept that as far from me as he could.

I appreciated Dave protecting me and making sure I stayed away but sometimes I wish he had let me in more so I could kind of see things from his prospective. "Is It ok if we go in to see him?" I asked. "Yes he's in room 211 down the hall to your right." She pointed.

Saying thank you, I picked Kairi up off the ground and made my way down to Dave's room.

"Aww baby." I hurried over to his side. His eyes were shut closed and he was surrounded by infusion pumps and various cords. "Here baby go watch some YouTube on mommy's phone and sit over there." I instructed Kairi.

Placing a chair directly next to Dave's bed, I held onto his hand and vowed to stay by his side.

"My baby don't like no damn chocolate pudding." Janice playfully snapped at me. We stopped down at the cafeteria to grab a few things to eat and Dave hasn't spoken a word since he woke up two days ago. He would not yes or no as a way of giving us an answer.

He'd usually like mine or Janice's cooking but unfortunately for him we were stuck with not so good hospital food. Three days had went by since Dave's overdose. He was surrounded by family and friends but everyone swore to speak on it.

Paying for our food, we made our way back upstairs to the tenth floor. "Mommy bought your favorite!" I squealed handing Kairi some apple slices with peanut butter.

Placing them down on a plate for her to enjoy, I managed to unpack Dave's food for him and place it on his best side table for him. "You hungry?" I asked.

He nodded his head no and turned his head to the tv. Taking the phone I bought for him, I took it to the nurses station snd had them refrigerate it. "Hey guys! I'm sorry I'm late." Ashley came through cheering.

"Hey sissy." She squealed giving my a big hug. Returning the love, I traded places with her allowing her some time with her brother. It has been three days since everything has happened and quite frankly I was ready to get back home to my comfortable plush bed.

It was quite exhausting, taking Kairi to and from school, running a business and being at the hospital everyday. I was extremely tired and was due for a Goodnights rest.

Dave hardly said a word to me but everyday constantly he told hugged, kissed and told Kairi he loved her. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel some type of way because then it'll sound like I'm in competition with my own child.

Truth is I do feel some type of way, I'm here by his side every day and have been for the past five years. I still get the short end of the stick no matter how good I am to people or no matter how much I do for them. I know they say never question God but sometimes I be really wanting to know, Why? What have I done so wrong to be treated so bad? He hardly even looked at me.

On somedays I just be having to walk out to room to not let him see me cry. I really love Dave and it's hard not to, I mean he was damn near my first real boyfriend. But all the things he's said and done to me still haunts me and still makes me feel bad about myself.

"I'm looking for Lauren Brewster." An officer asked. "Um yes that's me." I raised my hand confused. "You are under arrest for the murder of Jayceon Taylor, You have the right to remain silent. If you do say anything, what you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult with a lawyer and have that lawyer present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you if you so desire." He explain placing my hands in cuffs.

"You have the wrong person." I pleaded. "Yeah tell that to the judge." He replied tightening the cuffs on my hand. "Please listen to me I didn't do this." I added but he ignored me.
