Schizophrenia is a mental illness. For most people who hear the word schizophrenia, the first thing that comes to mind is "crazy" or "insanity." Schizophrenia, which is often confused with Disassociate Identity Disorder (a.k.a. multiple personalities), is a psychological disorder characterized by a wide range of manifestations and disorganization of thought patterns and feelings.

Many afflicted by this condition are slipping away from reality and still drifting away from who they have been their whole lives. People suffering from schizophrenia frequently exhibit incredibly strange and horrifying behavior. In fact, they can't distinguish the difference between what's real and what's imagined. In other words, individuals are having psychotic episodes, which are characterized by delusions (thoughts that are unconnected, bizarre, and have no basis in reality), hallucinations (audio, visual, and tactile), and jumbled thinking, "connections among their thoughts are exceedingly loose... leap from one issue to another wholly unrelated topic... they make no rational sense."
